I have decided to repower with a BBC. For sale is my MX 6.2 L 377 CID 320 hp Merc. This is a new 2004 engine with only 18 hours on it. Everything included, ECM, exhuast, everything. Drop in, turn key. I think this would be a great powerplant for an 18, or even a 16. Make me an offer. I know there are some resto's going on that this engine would compliment very well. Plus, this engine being new makes it a good candidate for a blower, of which Whipple makes a good one complete with a re-flashed ECM. Thought I would put it out there for the Donzi family before I threw it on Ebay, OSO, Speedwake, etc....

Thanks,
John

I'd like to see someone drop it in an 16.:)

It would make a really nice engine for an 18 too though........

Another vote for the 6.2 in a 18. I have the 383 mag and it's great.

Steve Whitney has one too. He has a great well dailed in 18.

What are you seeing for speeds with your set up?

When I installled mine, we did not have the extra $$ to swap the drive (still running the Volvo 280T) and although it pulls like mad out of the hole, it's a dog on top, just touching 60. The Volvo drive is pretty deep and is about as hydrodynamic as a brick.
I hope to swap the Volvo out with a Merc ITS transom assembly, lower the X-Dimention a bit (to get the motor fully under the hatch) and install a shorty Bravo.

sorry for the hi jack, good luck selling the motor!

Magoo, best has been 73 but pretty much 71 all day long, speeds are gps, before I touched a thing I touched 70 a few times but would run 68-69 at will. It Has been a very solid package, only had one problem, fuse blew on the fuel pump :bonk:but other than that rock solid. I'd like to see this engine and a whipple go into an 18, I'd think set up correctly would net around 85ish. I'd think some large stones would be required as well. Steve

My neighbor has a late 90's 18 2+3 with a 383 EFI/Eaton blower (very similar to the Whipple) He's running just shy of 80. He loves it!

I was thinking of an asking price around 4500.00 for board members only.

If she doesn't go in a week or two, will probably throw it on OSO, Speedwake, and ebay.

Like I said, 18 hours, complete drop in, turn key......

Feel free to ask any questions......

Is this a good choice for my Hornett II or should I wiat for something beefier?

Curious what kind of speeds I would get with the Volvo 280 drive and this package.

Currently I have an old Volvo truck engine that came in boat and gets 52-53 with one person and light fuel...

I guess it depends on how fast you want to go. If you are running mid-50's with a old truck engine, then this one will probably push you into the mid 60's if not a little higher I would think.

Another question is how old is your truck engine? If it is tired and worn out, then go for it. I will probably post this engine for 5500.00 to 5000.00 elswhere.

Just a reminder, this is a fuel injected engine complete with ECU.

Cig 35, Lenny is right, came out of a restored Criterion. Would be a nice engine for sea level, but I am at 6000 ft. Boat will only run 55, it is also 22 ft long and pretty heavy.

What's behind the motor, a Alpha or Bravo? I have an Alpha, just wondering if it would hold up, I'm too cheap at this time to upgrade the drive.

I've been pondering with the idea of either swapping the MPI system (350mag) I got from Lenny on to my 5.7 TBI/EFI motor or putting this on top of a new 383 to swap in. But seeing this option, I might be interested in your motor, cleaner swap.

There is currently an Bravo behind it, but you could easily hang an Alpha. The Alpha is rated to 300 hp by Mercruiser, but can handle WAY more than that. I have heard of up to and over 500 hp if driven responsibly.

Just to echo what DW said, Alpha's handle alot more than most think they will. I have a 383 stroker in a 21 1/2' VERY heavy Cruisers Inc and the Alpha has not missed a beat...........

I at times have abused it, mainly because of rough weather......:boggled:

A 6.2 with an Alpha would be a nice package IMO......

In case John is out digging snow and not able to answer, I believe he was offering it up to board members for $4500...?

Donziweasel

How much?

4500.00 for board members, will list it for 5000.00 elsewhere this week.

Everyone has spoken, great engine for an 16 or 18. Sounds like it will push an 18 over 71 off the bat.

I have looked everywhere and I was wrong on the new price of this engine. The cheapest I can find it is 11,000.00 on three different websites. Man, someone is going to save a fortune.
