Does anyone here know anything about these boats? Is this thing like a big overgrown classic??? How did they run? I think it looks pretty cool and it says that Don A only build 2 of them??

Only know what I've read, and I've read good things. I've got a feeling a board member or two has not only seen one, but had some seat time. Just a hunch though.

Here's a description of the Squadron/Cigarette 27 that I got from a guy that runs one on Chesapeake bay.

"I have still not weighed mine yet - been wanting too. Original Cig
literature claimed 4,200 lbs with half tank. Sounds and feels about right.
Tank is 100 gallons Boat has very large outside strakes that make it a
little rougher ride than it could be. The 28 cig with twins and 6,000 + lbs
rides like a cadillac in comparison. If the hull is an original squadron
with XEX in the hull number, or possibly CRG in the later ones built, then
it is bulletproof - you cannot hurt the hull - Huge stringers with cross
bulkheads everywhere - I'm constantly amazed at what it will go thru - the
limit is really what your'e willing to put up with . it's relatively light
weight and big strakes do hurt the ride when it comes to rough water - but
thats what gives it some speed for an old school deep vee. A 28 pantara is
heavy as a tank in comparison, but much slower with same power. You can
keep the bow down in anything, and cut the tops off waves if you want with
the k-planes. Nothing under the deck but racing bulkheads.

I was at 625hp and over 700ft lbs at 4k with a small blower on my 540 - the
setup seemed to last for the previous 2 owners for 3 seasons - two on a lake
in NY, and one on Lake Norman in NC. I broke the drive after @ 40 hours
here on the Chesapeake. I'm on drive #5 and this is my fifth season - I was
getting used drives off friends boats that were upgrading to bravos in 20
cig and 22 donzis. I rebuilt one myself and that is now lasted almost two
seasons - but I have backed off the fun in rough water, and spend alot of
time tubing and wakeboarding with the kids."
