Google mail has been infiltrated by spammers who have been flooding most forum websites worldwide.
Google refuses to acknowledge it or delete the the bogus email addresses that the spammers are using.
I have been having to wade through about 25 FAKE registrations a day to find that they are all fake and trying to get access to our members for the sake of posting stuff about porn, viagra, etc. If your email is really important to you, I might recommend that you use another email other than google mail. I am a member of a group of webmasters who are considering banning all traffic/emails from Google's gmail. This would result all users who have gmail not being able to log in or post. I would welcome your comments or suggestions.

Just wondering how being a Gmail user effects our ability to log in and post? Or are you planning to do a blanket ban/delete of Gmail users? Can we just change our profile email and be OK?

Thanks,
Michael

Yeah, surely it will not be retroactive, right? Just going forward, no new users can register with Gmail?

Can you point us to a thread/article detailing Google's unwillingness to tackle the problem? This is very interesting as about half the people I know use Gmail!

I am sure your gmail account helps you be spam free. The problem is the spam is coming FROM gmail accountsn not into them. Many folks (as well as I) have tried repeatedly to try to contact Google to report the offending addresses but their infrastructure is setup to address spamming coming into their gmail accounts, not coming from their gmail accounts.

I invite any gmail user to attempt to call google to report spam coming from thier system. abuse@gmail.com does not even work.

My point is that most if not all people have another email address that they can use instead of GMAIL. I suggest your consider using it in lew of gmail. I also have a gmail account and I can't depend on it. This is due to the large amount of servers that are now banning gmail traffic. This will make email delivery from your gmail account to someone else a crapshoot at best. I know I need to be sure my email gets to who I send it to. I am not going to ban existing members.

Thanks Wes, but I moderate all registrations manually to verify that all info is accurate and complete. This is being discussed at all the major Vbulletin sites with no solution other than blocking gmail.com accounts (not viable at this time)

even if you have gmail you can register your own domain name and associate it to gmail... so, if you wind up registering mycooldomain.com then you can make any email under that, like Joeblow@mycooldomain.com

it's all free, and you won't have to screw with gmail anymore. if anyone needs help just PM me.

Are you talking about adding a "From:" address to your gmail account, or something different?
