Ok, other than the headers, will one fit?

Don't laugh, just kind of kicking the idea with a friend of mine and we were wondering.

I don't know how similar they are, but they did make 18's with big blocks (454 and 427) from the factory, so I'm sure it would fit,... might have to make a couple other mods, but it would fit.

Seems to be a lot of concern for weight, and coming off of plane too quick though ;)

With technology the way it is now days, you don't need a big block for most applications. You can buy a 427 small block crate motor. Do the mods to make it good for a boat and you have the cubes of a big block, and the weight of a small block. If you have the cash, get an aluminum small block and supercharge it!

I have a big block in my boat.

I am not worried about dropping a few $ on the X. If I wanted more beef I would get a whipple.

We are kicking the idea of throwing one in mine for grins. Just want to know if it fits. I am happy with the 383. I have a friend with a spare 525 laying around. I do know that the hatch wont work.

We just want some winter fun.

I think Don still has his 427 SB, raise the X and put a Blackhawk on it, it would surely be a rocket and still maintain the 18's handling. Steve almost made it to 80 with a bone stock 300 in his BH 18!!!

All aluminum lsx based 427 would be way cooler. Easy to get 525 out of that package. Plus way better power to weight ratio.

He sold it a couple of months ago.

NO,

I am not doing a permanent swap. I just have a friend that has a 525 laying around and we were going to put in into the X for fun. I know it won't fit under the hatch but thought it would be fun for a bit. I just wanted to know if it would bolt up and the exhaust would match.

If so, if should be a crazy ride. We get got bored easily south. Just wait and see what Tex does later!

First it will fit but headders are an issue. However since you have the stock X it isn't too bad. the cooler is the easy part.

Grizz,
Good deal. The cooler is really what I was worried about. I will probably run it sans hatch.

Bill,
We are just having some winter fun. If it likes it, my buddy John might be shopping for an X. If it happens, he will probably do a Geo like project. I will go back to enjoying the 383. Its a great package for that boat.

We have been agonizing over the whole tail thing. That's a very good point. Do you know how much Phil?

Not sure you could check with Cuda, he had some made up for the Dana swap.

Just thinking you could do what Mario did on his Corsican, put the risers on backwards and ran hose tot he tips!!!!:wrench::smash: That was when he was running the Moody logs, he is direct out the back now with the new headers.

First, Madpoodle good job kinda looks like mine. I have a 468BBC in my 18. I didn't need offsets for the exhaust but height is an issue. I used every aluminum part that I could find to replace the cast iron ones. MadPoodle I would like to compare notes on your swap sometime.

Well My Corsican has CMI sport tubes on it, that they custom made for me. Since I have a 351 Cleavland in it no one made anything good for it so they did it foe me. I don't have them on backwards either. In case you don't know it the Cleavland is almost the sane size as the 502 and 454. That said. If I were going to do a fast X18 I would go with a 383 base Chevy small block and wave the big block. The big block is too hard to manage. I have seen them with a manageable 600 HP in a Python Viper doing 80+ mph

Everybody keeps forgetting that this is not a permanent situation. I am not planning to put in a 525 for the long haul. I have a friend that has one sitting in his shop and we were going to stick it in for grins.

If we need to have custom tails made, we probably won't do it. Buy a couple of bends maybe but that's it. Unless someone has some of those verticle stacks to borrow.

BigGrizzly

Bends is what I am talking about. You could have more fun by buying a ton of props from me:nilly:
