I melted 2 30A. relays over the past 2 weeks looking for ideas of why. I'm running an aeromotive 1000 pump 10 ga. wire for all connections except trigger from ecm. The boat runs fine all day multiple starts and then at the end of day while pulling the boat out the pump is running key off. The first time the relay was smoking and melted. Ideas and thoughts would be appreciated.

is it a Bosch brand relay? or *another* brand? most of the offshore Asian relays won't handle much over 12-15 amps no matter what they are rated at...

Your bypass is stuck, or you have a high resistance wire some where. Mine goes directly to the battery with a fuse the other wire is to the ignition is also fused with a 10 amp. It could be the pump is bad, but I doubt it. OH how long is the wire to the relay and battery, the longer the worse it gets. BTW I am using 8 ga to and from the relay.

Bypass?? The run to the relay is short maybe 3' away from heat sources it is mounted on the transom. I need to check what brand relay it is a friend also mentioned the cheap ones failling.

My pump is 19i inches away from the box/carb and I have a bypass if not the pump is always dead headded and will over heat.
