Left hand, 26" , should be all you could ask for and a TON of bow lift

Great prop for 300 horse 270-280's.

I have a LH & RH 24 Ultra I would sell either of them for half of the buy it now price of those. They would be great for someone that has 300-350 hp twin small blocks.

Agreed. A lot of us have 24" L or R's but a 26, out of the box, is a rare thing. A 350 MAG boat (obviously repowered) would LOVE this prop.

I can use my 24 like a centrifugal clutch :D Once hooked up it is only good for 60-61 at redline, but what fun. 30-40 more ponies would make the 26 perfect on a single 16-18 Volvo boat.

Plus, this one is LEFT.

Has a RH 22 also...

Is it just me or does the 22R just not look right?

Is this the sort of prop I should be using for my setup? I'm kind of prop-ignorant as of yet. I'm not even sure what I'm currently running yet. I've spent most of my time so far under the hatch. Having found the alternator bracket interfering with the cylinder 1 spark plug wire boot (burned through), I'm thinking I'll see much more than my typical 4,900 RPM next spring.

I have this same exact prop on my boat.
Was told in 2001 that this was a $ 700. prop?
I might need more engine as mine turns 4400 at best @ 55 mph.
Would like to try a 24 someday but this is a great prop.

What kind of horsepower are you making, Marlin? My engine is supposed to be making around 350 HP around 5,200 and 400 lb ft at 3,500 (based on specs for a newer ZZ4).

I will bet that prop does not perform as well as my 23 pitch props. In fact I know on my Corsican the 26 ultra does not do as well as mine. Sent the prop back. It may not have been the same exact prop. However a 300HP engine won't turn my 23.

My engine builder said it was around 285 HP
but he never would get specific?

I'm still leaning toward the Solas, Randy, but I'm trying to educate myself a bit. I really need to find out what I've got and get the engine running right before I do anything. Both of the goals should be achievable in the spring.

Please explain, is this a slight difference or significant?

Here is my suggestion. Call up all the people who use them and ask what other props they have used. Just get ready for a huge phone bill because they will tell you for hours. The high light of my efforts was at lake George last year was all the buyers of my props were sitting at the same table. When I went table hopping they toasted me. Boy was I proud and saddened, I should have sat with them what a bunch of supporters they were. Remember this is the only prop that was built around that Donzi hull and Volvo drive, it wasn't copied off another design. The ultra was actually copied off the old chopper prop.

Griz,

I have read everything posted about your props.
Most people had handling and steering issues.
I don't have those problems.
When I have asked, no one has said it would change my boats performance much at all.
2 MPH?

Marlin, just saw your post. I can tell you in all respects. Less cavitation, better handling especially in the rough, higher top speed and better fuel economy. There is a post on Donzi.org that goes into detail. But don't ask me because I sell them so I could be biased, not likely but there is a chance. This may be insignificant to you, but I sold a prop to a gentleman in Philadelphia, who bough it for his best friend. The friend was having a lousy vacation when the prop arrived. It turned the vacation around. The two friends borough me a present at Lake George that will be remembered. Fresh Italian rolls. This was a great gift for me.

AS for performance and handling. Most of those people were fairly high power. However you may have a handling issue and don't know it. If you have a 16 or 18 and 300 HP and you don't have a handling issue, that is weird and a one of a kind. I can't say it will increase your speed. Kirby found my prop a little slower then his best by 1 mph, yet mine is faster. I don't know why both of us have power trim. I did coach him a little but that was not the reason. If you are happy with what you have keep it and don't change it. Propping a boat is for the driver comfort driving experience. I hardly ever use my fastest prop on my Criterion. Come to think of iti am not sure if its in the boat or on the shelf at this point. I refuse to drive a boat that will come unglued without warning. I saw RT's boat come unglued with ElDiablo on it one day, and he was ready for it, not me.

I ran everything BUT a prop from a DC-3 on my 16, the solas by far was the best the only handling issue I know about was on Jay Lurie's 16 with the old volvo 200 he had a problem with the solas 21 we swapped I gave him a solas 19 and it was a world of difference. the only thing i can think of is the lower unit is slighty shorter and the prop was very close to the anti cav plate. so the guess was that the 21 moved to much water sorta bunching it up against the plate and causing the problem. every other person i know who ran the solas had zero issues . these props move a ton of water and have single digit slip numbers maybe not as fast as some but have no quirks or bad manners at all. my controlable top end went up from mid 50's to low 60's with the solas. if you have a chance try one i am sure you will be amazed, there is no cavitation, ventilation or blow out the prop is hooked to the water !!! i was turning a 21 pitch just to 5000 rpms maybe a tad more on a good day with a 310 hp 351w

Matty I like the Marie story better. She said she didn't like the DC3 prop.

Marlin,
the Marie story Griz is referring to:
I lent the solas to my pal Kenny to run on his cig before his solas arrived. he gave me an ultra 24 so i could run and test the numbers against the solas . on the test run my wife immediately knew the solas wasn't on the boat by the way the 16 handled she offered to jump in the lake with a wrench and get the solas back. I returned her back to the dock she did not go out on the 16 until I had the solas back the boat

Yes that is the story, but much more colorfull when she tells it:wink: Talk about a big head my wife had after that rendition. The stories like that make the two years of screwing around worth it.

I have a SOLAS 23" left if anyone is interested. I prefer the (my opinion) Ultra on my VOLVO 280 with 350 MAG. As I have stated many times, I need bow lift (a lot) and the Ultra does that. The Solas does not. A 26" Ultra I think would be fabulous with a bit more power.

$300 if anyone wants it. Run twice.

I'd like to try one of those Solas props one day on my 18. They sound great.
But if anyone ever wants a brand new Ultra, I know who has the ORIGINAL molds. Mike Hood down by Hobby airport in Houston told me he has them in his shop...any pitch you want.
