I am trying to rebuild the I/O tilt electric drive for a 1967 Sweet 16. Can anyone post a picture of how the motor-driven screw that goes through the gimble interacts with the lower unit to make it move? I have the motor, the cast components the motor attaches to and the screw, but I seem to be missing something.

Thanks

there is a hole for the ram in the transom housing it looks like the foot on the ram is missing which is needed to release the reverse locking mechanism so the drive can be lifted

the foot is screwed in then held in place by a tab which is bent up on 2 sides so the foot will not loosen up and fall out don't ask how i know this , the foot as it extends down and comes into contact with the tab on the locking mechanism and as it is forced down it detaches the lock and lets the drive be lifted up

Thanks. What are the chances of getting a picture of this so I can attempt to reproduce it?

Anyone have any parts for sale?:wrench:

I don't have a boat to take a pic of
let's see if I can describe it

looking at the transom plate on the port side should be a little bulge with a hole in it which should be directly over the port side of the drive folk /bracket
this is where the ram resides and when retracted or up the only thing visible is the foot on the end of the ram in it's extended posistion the ram is visible and the foot will hit the tab which inturns forces the latch on the lock down so the lock is disengaged and now the ram as it extends pushes down on the the inside of the drive forcing the leg up it sounds like the mouse trap game but it does work
again in your pic the foot looks like it is missing if you can see threads in the end of the ram it is missing of course the foot needs to be removed in order to get the lift motor out anyway

again don't ask me how i know with out the foot the drive will not come up

can someone with a volvo take pics of the ram in different positions?? that might help

The tilt actuator (http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=comp&group=1887&GroupList=1885,1864,1863,1873,1874,1868,1862,1861, 1865,1884,1883,1867,1871,1872,1869,1878,1879,1880, 1881,1882,1866,1887,1870,1886,1875,1877) extends the screw pushing down on the upper port side of the Suspension fork (http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=comp&group=1878&GroupList=1885,1864,1863,1873,1874,1868,1862,1861, 1865,1884,1883,1867,1871,1872,1869,1878,1879,1880, 1881,1882,1866,1887,1870,1886,1875,1877).

This pushes the pin down to release the reverse catch and continues on to pivot the drive up. It doesn't seem like there is ehough mechanical advantage there but it works.

It looks like you may be missing the foot that Matty refers to. If you don't have that in place the reverse catch pin will just go up into the hole in the end of the screw and not release.

Thank you all for the info. Does anyone have an old mechanical lifting device kicking around that they would like to sell?
