I have an HP500EFI going into my 1995 22C. The question is whether or not to use factory eng mount system improved slightly with longer brackets etc or use a Mercury Racing Eng Bracket. I have my engine being pulled 1st for some stringer repairs needed around the port-side eng mount.

I like to "run" my boat but not beat on it...many of u here have seen it and I take pride in its appearance and condition. This thread is not a pissing contest.. but a way I hope to get some valued opinions.

How about a 1/2" aluminum plate for the inside of the stringers, so the nuts don't dig into the wood...Ed

I agree with the sandwich system as it really only makes sence and isn't that big of a deal to do

this is the set up we used on mine when I replaced the engine and it doesn't show any sign of stress anywhere in the bilge

why don't they cross gusset the stringers out to the chine like they used to?? i've never seen a cracked bottom or stringer issue when they did that...

Ed...that is my plan if keeping the original mounts...the 1/2in aluminum plate 8-10"long would go up against the stringer first then use the original L-Bracket :) The Original L-bracket has an e-longated holes allowing for adjustment so I believe there to b enough room for a 1/2in plate to be inserted first...:)

Are the flat mounts your talking about "Race Plates" like what would go between the bell housing and block? although they are cool as hell, they are a mother for drive/coupler alignment corrections, I think they are more for boats with driveshafts and trannies. Maybe I mis understood (I just woke up, I'm on vacation for 2 weeks)

I'm on vacation too. I like the sandwich approach for the stress a blue motor
will create. Heck you could even glass it in if you don't want to see it since you have repairs to do anyway. Listen to what BlownCrewCab said about the alignment. That is kind of imporntant! 1/2" alumn plate seems overkill though. Also could use thinner stainless.

My 2002 has cross gussets and then a plate glassed in from the top of the stringer to the chine. I think all the modern 22's are this way.

The bracket eliminates the moment that the motor torque puts on the stringers, taking away the tendency to twist the stringers and transfers the motor torque into the entire hull of the boat with a rigid aft end. You may get more torque lean in the hull with the bracket, mine has a bunch, and as we've said alignment is tougher and you have more weight in the back of the boat. I still like the bracket.

Seems like an Aluminum 3/8 thick Bracket Sandwich 8-10in long on the beef'd up stringer's might be a choice and continue to use the factory rubber mount L Brackets.:)::nilly:

You can eliminate the soft mounts with solid that look just like and adjust just like what you have, they do tie things together a bit better, I am pretty sure Doc used them in his boat when he did the Blue Pill. Try a PM for suggestions from him.

Dwight and I speak regularly and he has seen the pics of mine that are on our site... www.atlanticcoastdonzi.com and I used the Eddie Marine Solid Offshore Mounts.... Beefier than stock...no issues...my engine is also setting on Aluminum Blocks, basically shims to get the right height up front.

Course I have a Chris Craft not a Donzi so I can't speak for the cheaper Donzi construction methods...what can I say...?

Here is Doc's mount...it is very sharp.. a good option to consider as well... and not a difficult install...:nilly::nilly:

I sandwiched mine 8 years ago with 1/2 by 6 aluminum 5 feet long and use stock mounts. This is what I would do again. BTW Scott has been up close and personal with them.

No blood and nothing broken. BTW When I showed the sandwiched stringer to Garry he said he can't believe how strong it is and cheap to. BTW He has a customer that actually pulled out a offshore engine mount right through the stringers. I did not see this yet.

for the factory mounts.

Less vibration and they have worked fine with the 500 since 2002.

The regular mounts with the sandwich are the way to go. I even have them on the X. Mine are not 5 feet though. I am liking that idea.

:angel:I used to like sandwiches? :shades:

Now it's Gerbal Food & Dehydrated Apples... Oh Boy! I vote you go with the stock stuff and throw in a Monte Cristo Sandwich, with a 1/2" thick peice of Cheese wedged in between some Caustic Corned Beef freeze dried from Nova Scotia.

What the hell am I talking about? :spongebob:

The ole Monte Cristo. Not a bad sandwich but I had a hard time recovering from the Gerbil comment.....

What kind of repairs are you doing to the stringer??????
My 22C is a 95 also. They used VERY little caulk while constructing mine SOOOOOO after I bought the her, I pulled the engine and rigging, and built her back the right way:bonk:

I use the stock engine mounts. 1100hrs (300hrs w/502) with no problems.

Rick...the port-side stringer near eng mount has an approx 16in crack approx 1in from top of stringer. Looks to be from the torque of my current 502. Pics of it are on the cracked hull thread towards the later pages..2 pics. The stringers will be beef'd up better than stock for sure...then I'm leaning towards Poodle and Big Grizz's idea of adding 1/3in thick aluminum plates maybe 2-3 feet long sandwiching the stringers while using the factory mounts..:)

The bracket method can't be all that bad if Jo uses it.

I have the offshore one.
http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=847

Cons-
Transmits vibrations, tight fit on engine, blocks off drain on block
Also had to shorten it to fit between the stringers.

Pro -Rugged,ties in both stringers.

I hate that mount it is over rated and won't fit a 14 Qt oil pan.

First things first...A 28ZXO with Blue Motor's has been voted yes:yes::yes::yes:...but thats another thread for the future...:kingme:

:shades:now back to the Aluminum Sandwich Ideazzzzzz....:bonk:....

The 502 is being pulled in December....:crossfing:
