Yeah, I earned that one. :bonk: Talk about a car that I wish would come back. Do some internal systems work and bring back the original Pininfarina Spider Duetto body, as original? Man. (I always wanted to yank the horrible spoyler off of mi '88 and take it to a body shop to fill the holes and repaint the trunk. That would have been most of the battle.)

Quite a few fun sports cars you guys had and have.
My first car was a 1966 Chevy Impala with a 327 and 2 speed automatic tranny - slip and slide we called it.
The only fun cars I had when I was younger was a 1973 Grand Prix model SJ with a 455 and a 1975 MGB with the optional electric overdrive. In my stable now are:
1 1980 Corvette with a 450HP 383 stroked motor, 700R4 overdrive tranny - custom built, Hooker headers and sidepipes, and some custom body parts and wheels. I built this car up from stock.
2 1965 AC Shelby Cobra 427SC with a 489HP stroked 427CID Ford small block, Tremec TKO 5 speed tranny, 9" Ford rear end with Currie gears - but it is a replica -
3 1983 Jaguar XJ6 - white with 71,000 miles.
4 1986 Jaguar XJ6 - Jaguar racing green with wire wheels
5 1987 Jaguar XJS with a tuned port 350 Chevy engine and 700R4 tranny
6 1967 Thunderbird with the 428 engine - needs restoration
7 1973 Thunderbird with the 460 engine and only 34,000 - like new inside and out
My drivers are 1992 Toyota Cressida and 2001 Toyota Tundra. Bill

I never had a lot of neat muscle cars, but I had a few interesting projects.
When I was a teenager, about '60, my dad bought a '48 Plymouth coupe. I drove it several years until the original 85 HP flat head six died. I dropped in a 392 Hemi from a '58 New Yorker. It wasn't particularly quick but still a sleeper. It would absolutely destroy any transmission I could afford to put in it.
Later in the mid '60's I met a guy at the drags that had moved to Houston from L.A. While living there, he had bought a 1956 Ferrari Milla Miglia (the car would now be worth over $1 mil). When he got stopped by the smog police, he pulled out the 2.6 L Columbo V-12 and dropped in a SBC and sold it. I suggested he have the V-12 shipped to him, I would supply a Bug Eyed Sprite, and we would build a "C Modified Sports Car" for drag racing, a class dominated with Chevy powered Austin Healey 3000's.
We got pretty far along with it. Eventually I got married and that pretty much ended my participation.
A little later I bought a '63 Plymouth SSA 426 Stage II Wedge. Again from a transplanted Californian (this was when I was working at NASA). This car had a Hayden Proffit built engine along with 14:1 CR, had suffered from detonation and had one badly scored cylinder but was running. After detuning the engine somewhat and sleeving the bad cylinder, it was fun to run on the street. Before I bought it, it had run its best in the low 12's.....tires have improved a lot since then.

Alas, ever since, I've been completely level headed and bought perfectly boring cars and trucks.

Well, being a young whipper-snapper (sort of), I suppose I've got a pretty good list for only driving for 9 years now.

They are:
1: 1989 Chevy Silverado Reg Cab, 2wd, 350 V8 (1999) (would friggin fly!)
2: 1996 Chevy Blazer (2001) (not my favorite vehicle, but it got the job done)
3: 1997 BMW 318is (2002) (loved this car! wish I could have kept it when I got my truck)
4: 2004 Chevy Colorado (2007) (taking lots of abuse from the sales job)

Jim,
They are incredibly nice riding cars with 4 wheel independent suspension and very quiet. They are almost giveaway priced, but most need paint and a lot of TLC. I got carried away a few years ago, and sold 3 more of them earlier this year along with a 1964 Land Rover that I had restored- lol. John's Cars in Dallas has a great kit for the SBC conversion - maybe your friend had them do the swap. My XJ6s have the original engines, but the XJS had the V12 which is not as reliable - understatement! Bill

John's Cars in Dallas has a great kit for the SBC conversion - maybe your friend had them do the swap. yup, that's the place.. my father in law had an XJS for awhile... actually not a bad car.... my friend's wife who invited us all to NASCAR this weekend gets a new supercharged XJR every 2 years... now thats a bad ass ride... wouldn't mind having the one she has now actually... they depreciate like rocks though, worse than a Lincoln does, but I luv 'em just the same... wires and Dunlop dogbones set the period tone... might have to look into one after I finish this SL600 resto i'm playing with...

I'm sticking to the special ones in my heart -
Cars / Trucks:
'69 Olds 442 convertible (this was my mom's but it is what I drove as a teen)
'71 MG Midget (responsible for my only 720 deg spin - no collision)
'74 Old Delta 88 convertible (The land yacht, had more than 1 beauty queen in a parade)
'59 Chevy Apache P/U (ALL BONDO, unique once through oiling system - I loved the recycled Wolfe's Head. Parked it on top of a fire hydrant 1 icy morning. After that to operate the clutch you had to pull the attached coathanger to re-engage) http://www.59apache.com/021_4a.jpg
'69 GMC 4x4 (aka The Mudpuppy - raised, mudders, 3 on the floor, cherry bombs)

Bikes:

'71 BSA 441 Victor Cafe Racer (this little baby would fly - no battery, no key switch, no kick start - back up to bleed the compression off and then bump start in second)
'74 Triumph Trident 750 (won every Outlaw run campground drag race - wind first to about 60, second to 70, race over) http://www.triplesonline.com/bikes/images/74T150VUSb-g_t.gif
'83 Suzuki Katana 1100 (smooth-bore Mukunis, Vance&Hines cam, Kerker KR header - the beginning of today's crotch rocket phenomenon) http://www.suzukicycles.org/photos/suzuki-history/1982/1982_GSX1000SD_Katana_450.jpg

I've got to admit, it appears to me that you have owned about as many fun toys as anyone I have ever heard of.

Lately, whenever anyone posts about a project they are undertaking, I try to guesstimate if/when you will jump in with pictures and information about when you owned the same make/model boat and did a complete restoration.

At first I thought, "No way can this guy have owned/restored as many boats as he says," but you just keep coming up with more and more. Holy cow, I wish I had any one of the boats you have previously redone.

I am 55 years old and my biggest enemy is boredom. Before I met my girlfriend who is now my fiance after 13 years together, I did not have a computer or watch much if any television - I was always working 7 days a week. There have been many times even after getting with Deanna that I will go back to work at my shop until 3:00 in the morning if I get fired up on a project. Between working and getting lucky in the stock market until recently, I was able to buy quite a few cars, boats, and collectable things that I enjoy. Most of my friends tell me that I get more things done than anyone else they know. It is not surprising since I like to keep my hands busy. My greatest joy is bringing an older boat or car back to life and many times in better condition than when it was new. The Cobra was a result of my wanting to build up a street rod, but knowing it was going to take me a long time; so I cheated by using stock market money and buying one just about exactly like I would have built it. The man I bought it from could not drive it after building it up due to having his sternum removed after bypass sugery resulted in an infection in his sternum - no protection for his heart.
I am not able to help many of the guys here with newer boat problems since I am always behind the times in my knowledge. Here are a few pictures of me - just to put a face on a name. Bill

No such animal!

I admit - I was guessing on the year. I don't remember it very well, other than it was a fox body. I bought it as a non-runner and flat-towed it home about 50 miles (!!) behind the Regal. I had a few old 302's laying around from other things my brother and I were into, so the plan was to build a streetable drag car out of it. We never completed it though, and I ended up selling it to a local guy who pretty much just put it back on the road stock (as I remember, and we've already established my memory is questionable)

I shall edit the list to read '8? Mustang'

(Actually, now that I think about it, it might have been a Capri!)

Scarry, ain't it?

Looks likely yours is a year or two newer than mine looking at the deluxe paint. I also see you have a Gunfigher seat and a set of bags.

I had a set of bags, a magnetic tank bag, and a Mustang king/queen seat for two-up weekends, but mostly I ran it with the stock solo seat. The only mods were to trim the license plate mount a bit, add a dual helmet lock, and a set of Cobra pipes. The aftermarket for that bike wasn't the strongest.

I haven't thought about that bike in a long time - if I had it, I'd jump on it and go for a ride right now ... I can still recall exactly what it felt like.

I sold it several years ago with about 40K miles ... haven't had a cruiser or touring bike since, although I'll change that someday.
