Got to be one of the most overrated cars on the street, lack luster performance, poor brakes,uninspiring interior and now our beloved head stuck in the sand government is considering a bail out. The new Holden Pontiac 4 door is exciting.
Sorry to the Ford lovers on the forum but how long do you expect the potential buyer of this car to just accept 70-80s technology!!!!!!

I hate to ask but what's different about the 2010? It looks nearly identical to the current car. The hood bulge is new, correct? What else? IRS? :cool:

By the way, Ford did an awesome job with the website.

Until we get tired of it...

Its obviously the right size, the right look. People feel good about it. I think the two competitors are missing the boat.

I've had many Mustangs over the years, including a 2004 Cobra convertible. The last one was an absolute riot.

I now have a 2007 SRT8 300, so the concept of the G8 appeals to me. I've driven SHOs and other fast four doors, so the idea of having your cake and eating it too, is what I am all about. The 300 fills this mission.

I was excited about the concept of the G8, until I actually got to see one. The slab-sided looks of the thing make a refrigerator shipping box look exciting to me. The new Flex is sexier and I don't like it either! To each their own, I guess.

All of this aside, we now have more choices in muscle performance cars than we probably will ever have again. One of the twins has been jonesing for a GT500 for a couple of years now and he brought it up again the other night. I told him to wait and go drive the Mustang, the new SS Camaro, and the SRT Challenger with manual and then make up his mind what goes in the garage.

Decisions, decisions!

First, two admissions: I'm a Ford guy. I also like small cars.

Now, about the new Camero/Challenger - they're....so....BIG!

Why? Why couldn't they scale them down a bit, shave a little weight, and keep the same basic styling? They'd be much more appealing cars, at least in my mind. That's part of what makes the Mustang the best choice of the three. And frankley, have you noticed it's not exactly getting any smaller either?

And although I think the "new" mustang looks nice, I too wonder what exactly makes it "new". Looks like a simple re-fresh from the 3 minutes I spent looking at the website.

And I think you're right on the money about having more choices now. Given the way things are going this looks like the last hurrah for Muscle cars.

Of course, people said that back around 1974 too.

There are plenty of small cars already, these cars appeal to Americans that want the classic American style car.

Plus, have you ever tried to get a car seat into Japanese "mid sized" car? holy crap.

I've been looking at the Charger Daytona a lot lately. Big enough to fit the kids plus good looks and fun.

Out to lunch on the head light treatments...

Love the interior improvements...

New wheels are cool...

So are the tail lights...

Like the crease on the upper sheet metal...

Needs more than carryover power, which is coming...

Ah yes, there are plenty of small economy cars, but not so many small 'premium' or sport(y) cars. Things that come to mind:
Mini
BMW 135
A3
ahh.....

But actually, I was just commenting on how much bigger the Camero and Challenger are than the Mustang. I'd have to look up the specs, but they are both quite a bit larger and heavier. And the current Mustang is no lightweight.

Why so big? They look like the original versions in much the same way 70's Elvis looks like 50's Elvis.

As for a car seat ..... egads man! why would I do that??!!
(actually, I have a friend who puts two cars seats for his kids in his Mini; my brother does 2 with a Jetta quite well also)

SAME engine and drive train. Yuck. Probably same crappy suspension too with a solid rear axle (only good if you're building a drag racer).

I used to be a muscle car guy, even had a 12-second turbo all-wheel drive (Subaru STI), but now I've seen the light and drive a 2490 pound '07 mazda mx5 with the mazdaspeed racing suspension in it. I think the only car that handles better would be a Lotus Elise, but they have no luggage/grocery capacity. It's not fast, but gets 28mpg around town and is truly is fun to drive for a $17k car (used, 1 year old).

Ugly ugly ugly. Ford's going to ruin a killer car design by changing for the sake of change.

The rear is starting to look like an infinity or nissan.

Its starting smell like the way they ruined a legendary powerplant/truck combination.
Can you say piece of crap power stroke f series truck?
I mave multiple friends who have 2008 ford powerstroke truck and they are the biggest piece of crap. When i talked to ford they blamed it on the epa.

Return of the Cobra Jet!

Hemmings:
Muscle Cars
Cobra Jet strikes again

Ford is hoping to recreate the CJ magic 40 years later with a new NHRA-legal race car — the 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang.
As the story goes, a mechanic working at Tasca Ford in East Providence, Rhode Island, blew up the 390 in a brand-new 1967 Mustang GT while flogging it, and replaced it with a 428 Police Interceptor engine. The result was a car that made the disappointing 390-powered Mustang look and feel like it was tied to a tree stump.

After much arm twisting, Bob Tasca convinced Ford to install 428s in Mustangs and thus the 1968 Cobra Jet was born. The first CJs were factory lightweight drag cars driven by a team of top drag racing gun slingers at the ’68 Winternationals in Pomona, California. The Mustangs swept the Super Stock field, and a legend was born.

Ford is hoping to recreate the CJ magic 40 years later with a new NHRA-legal race car — the 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang! The Cobra Jet (FR500CJ) is a factory-built race car (serialized but no VIN), available for order from any Ford dealer as a Ford Racing part.

The car’s vitals include: * A 5.4-liter Cobra Jet engine with a Cobra Jet cold air kit and stainless steel long tube headers;
* A/C delete;
* A 6-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission with SFI bell housing;
* Ford 9-inch rear axle assembly;
* One-piece driveshaft with a single-hoop driveshaft loop;
* Cobra Jet rear control arms and anti-roll bar, Ford Racing adjustable shocks and a special drag race spring kit;
* Cobra Jet wheels 15- x 4-inches (front), 15- x 10-inches (rear).

I can see it now, acid dipped body panels, spring-less seats, thin glass, etc, etc. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I've never been a Ford or Mustang guy, but I've really liked the last couple Mustang models. My neighbor has a new black GT with gray racing stripes and a 6 speed trany. I'm trying to get up the nerv to ask him if I can drive it around the block!:yes:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/mockingbird812/69%20300%20Deluxe%20L78/2669926-0-0.jpg......... this week at Pomona for the Winternationals opener the 08 C-Jet's qualified well under the record.... incredibly impressive that both a stick and an auto car BOTH went 10.08/10.17 in the first race of the year, both are low class qualifiers, both are first round winners.... Stinnett and Calvert have got it going on.... what is even MORE impressive is that NHRA factored them into A/S and A/SA classing, that's the baddest of the baddest big block cars ever built, and the C-jet is a 5.4...

to say this was a home run, slam dunk, full field goal effort by Ford is the understatement of the performance century...

absolutely unfreakinbelievable.. :cool: :yes: :)
