I have a buddy who got severely screwed by a certain repair shop where he took his 38 footer in to have one of his 502's rebuilt. They "fixed" the boat and gave the boat back to him. The boat would hit 69 mph before, after repair it would only do 64 mph. With approximately 30 hours on the engine, a valve broke. He took it to another shop that has a pristine reputation, and they informed him that he has a car engine in his boat that is painted black. The part number on the engine is a GM part number and the oil pan is gray. I won't release the name of this shop until I get the OK from the guy who got screwed (he is attempting to negotiate with them). But, if you are planning on having major work done on your boat and you have a shop in mind, send me an email letting me know who is going to do your work and I'll warn you if you are going to give this shop your business.
