Love the pics - the shots of the mountains make me think back to my recent trip to Maine; when visiting Acadia national park, the little intro film has a comment about their mountains - 'Mountains? Westerners will scoff....'

I too chuckled at the 'mountains' in Maine. Ha! Barely 5000 feet! I often start my hikes at higher elevations than that!

Of course, I didn't weigh in the 'downeast factor'. Apparently when they make a trail in that region, they don't waste time or space with silly nonsense like finding an easier route or making switchbacks. No....they look around, find a peak they want to get to the top of, and go straight there. Boulder in the way - too bad, just go over it pal!

Some of our guide books rated trails as 1's or 2's - stuff we'd normally skip because they'd be so boring. Some of those trails back east still had sections you had to scramble over using your hands. On a trail rated a 1! Back in Yosemite, a 1 would be little more than a dirt sidewalk!

So the eastern guys might not have any great mountains, but they do know a thing or two about hiking rough terrain.

I did my nuclear prototyping in Idaho Falls. Loved visiting Jackson Hole and the Million Dollar bar. Very nice country and good skiing. We used to play on a lake on the West side of the Tetons. Don't remember the name but you pretty much needed a wet suit all year.

Mountains in Maine? Nope...The hills are about the same as the Central Texas "Hill Country".

Thanks for the pics. Brings back memories.
