Why did Wellcraft quit making the Scarab performance boat? Sad they use the name on fishing boats as it was an icon for performance boating, especailly in the 80's with the Miami Vice exposure. Thought that would have given them staying power.

I remember a Miami Vice episode where they were racing. Before the race, they "quickly" bolted on a set of superchargers so they could win, and of course, Crockett and Tubs won. Got to love the 80's cheese.

Looks like the full size Scarab that Miami Vice used, in concert with a 20-something foot miniature version. The colors and arch definitely look like my memory of it.

This clip looks to me like it has the smaller boat mixed with at least one larger one. (Smaller at 20 seconds into the cilp, and also at 2 minutes):

Looking at the windshield detail, among other things, the bigger one in this video looks a little different than the one that started this thread.

YES I DO! Thats one of my friends that lives vere close to me here on the lake. Now he runs a fountain 42 poker run twin step with blown 1100s. Mike C. Always good to see some history films!!

I had this KV for about 10 years. With 400hp 454's she would run 55mph. With big power they run 65mph, but could run through anything. I sold her last year for 20k, she was a fresh water hoist kept Scarab.

I Painted that Miami Vice Scarab when I worked for Trick Paint in Miami, There where 2 of them we did side by side. The fade on the side was 13 colors of Imron, we used 9 sprayguns (all we had)
