A 2008 Formula 28SS on a real solid Manning Aluminum coming our way in the next few days for fall leaves cruising at Lake Cumberland.

Sits ten, preferably female, in complete comfort. Gets on plane in 4.5 seconds. And tops out in the 50's. Not bad for a behomoth that has a 9.2 beam and weighs in at 8200 dry.

Should make a nice tankini committee boat for next year's fun run at AOTH. Not to mention cove central next summer on the big lake with blue halogen lighting everywhere, a kick butt swim platform, and a cranking satelite stereo...

And before the comments start, the SE is not going anywhere. Comfort is one thing, speed is another!

was wondering what was going to replace teh Scorp. Very Nice

My brother just bought an 03 BR version of the 28, and it is a rock solid boat. I was planning on trying to get him to AOTH next year...I will redouble my efforts now.

and the suggestions for upgrades have already begun, including swapping out the 350's for Scorpions!

The underwater lighting would rock with the set-up on the rest of the boat.
Buiz, just come drive the thing at AOTH next year. The tankini team needs proper and qualified escorting...

The comments on the trailer are appreciated. It is stout and actually dwarfs the boat. I am trying electric over hydraulic disk brakes on all four wheels on this beast, so we live to talk about the hills on the way down to the water at Cumberland. It was actually a good deal too, imagine that.

I will post more pics of the boat, when we get her out for some fall foilage tours in the next week or two.

Jefe, tell your brother to bring it on, Formula is Aronow family after all. We looked at the 28BR and passed only because I have a desire to try overnighting on the water again. We'll see how THAT goes.

Thanks everybody for the comments...

if Todd's smart, as he usually is, he'll send the RTSS down here for the meticulous winter care of a fellow patriot who adores Formula's.... Jill is planning a four mile hike EVERY day this winter in order to try and fit into one of them there tankini weasel get ups! Dang.

No offense, Jefe. You are the originator of the Team Jefe Red Bikini Team concept and I have no intent of even attempting to pass by that reputation.
Simply put, Buiz put me onto the 28SS, and it worked out to be JUST RIGHT. So he gets to captain the thing at AOTH.

Of course, if you don't show up and carry the pre-game festivities at AOTH with some pretty spectacular cajun cooking, we are screwed.

As for the Revenge, if it shows, the RED BIKINI team will be welcomed with open arms around these parts!

I arranged to have the boat transported to Kentucky from Michigan.
The difference between my burning fuel in the Ex on a round trip to go get it wasn't significant enough to put up with the aggravation of dragging it down here.

The boat is in Somerset and a half hour out. Woo Hoo!

Now, the next trick is figuring out how to get that arch in the store-in-lock... No complaining, as Jill insisted the boat had to have it...

More pics to follow...

It has all been said already. However I can comment on the electric hydraulic breaks. I have Kodiak all Stainless steel Disk breaks on the Criterion, an they are tremendous, Over 8,000 miles and no issues except break dust:nilly:. I have tested the electr-hydraulic brakes on a big Eliminator and they are the best of both worlds. They with disks have it all. If I get a little ahead I am going to put the electro hydraulic kit on mine.

Didn't that happen to you one other time?

and had about four inches of height to spare through twelve foot doors over the infamous arch.

What a behemoth.

You're right Griz, the brakes are pretty cool. I bought a Tekenosha P3 controller that has the right set-up for the Carlisle electric over hydraulic system. The disks are Kodiak. I messed around a little with the system, while I was dragging the boat back to our place today, and it cranked the boat and the Ex right on down, no small accomplishment. A buddy did say it was dragging a wheel in reverse, so I'll have to figure it out. Probably a boost setting. I do like the concept, as I have never gotten along with surge style braking systems, especially master cylinders. Maybe, I'll retro the MYCO under the Donzi, if I like using these.

Wild Bill, your transaction was MUCH SMOOTHER than this one. The banks drove us insane, but the deal is done and we are happy.

We splash her next weekend...

I have the same controller and electric over hydraulics on the Ameritrail and it's a dream compared to surge brakes.

For reverse you have to set the reverse function so the brakes don't activate when you touch the brake pedal.

Reverse
When backing a trailer you can cancel “BOOST” and “HOLD” for a period of three minutes. This can be accomplished by pressing the boost button continuously for five seconds with the brake pedal depressed.

The display will indicate: "SET REVERSE FEATURE"

Release boost button and the “R” Arrow icon will flash. After three minutes the “BOOST” and “HOLD” features will automatically return to your previous
settings.

NOTE: Returning to your previous settings prior to three minutes can be accomplished by pressing the boost button.

Thanks MJW...

I looked at the instructions when I was installing the contoller late last week. The issue I would have with the reverse lockout is the three minutes. I'm just not going to get my backing done that quickly, especially backing down the ramp. They are long and steep at LC.

There is also a reference on the front page under "Important Facts to Remember" and it goes:

" 4) The P3 will brake proportionally in reverse. It will apply the appropriate brake voltage based on deceleration".

This leads me to believe that you can leave the controller engaged, I think I may have left the boost setting on at B1 or B2 this weekend in my new boat excitement, so I am going to try turning that off before backing again and see what happens with just voltage. We'll experiment a little in the parking lot on flat land.

I am with you though. My initial reaction is these things are night and day compared to the surge brake dance. We just got to figure out what works in reverse, because I don't want to disengage them and have the boat pull the Excursion into the drink with Jill behind the wheel.

Thanks again for the heads up. We'll figure it out and if all else fails, I can call the manufacturer.

Todd, all I can say is WOW!!!! What a beautiful ride for cruising and enjoying some quiet time on Lake Cumberland. The color of course is perfect in my eyes and yes.........Formulas are part of the Aronow family. Hope you have many wonderful days and evenings on her. Say HI to Jill for me and take care yourself. Best of both worlds........ the SE and party central on the water.

The "feature" can really be a pain. It takes about 15 seconds to activate so you end up sitting in the line for the ramp waiting for it to engage and while 15 seconds doesn't seem like a lot of time, people get impatient when they don't see you moving. The same when I back into my driveway. People see me stopped in the street and start honking when I don't start to back up immediately.

The easy fix is to put a switch inline with the red wire (brake switch sensor) so it doesn't engage when the switch is open. You just need to remember to re-engage the switch.

Now that's funny! Do they make a placcard with that rule on it, because I have done my fair share of pumping and dumping. I am learning why Deric (ShowNGoH2O) pulled his crapper out.

Air is right on, that boat needs a stripper-pole. There is no reason why that boat shouldnt have a stripper-pole with a radar arch like that to mount it to! Didn't Jim Morrison once say 'Mount it, and they will come'?:yes::outtahere:

while the Kid Rock video is inspiration enough to put a Pole on board, it may take away from the look of the boat! Sure, it's a weak excuse. But if the Formula is going to be the main anchor boat for the raft off at AOTH, shouldn't that be the boat to have the stripper-pole? Make sure it's anchored well, 'cause Barbi gets crazy on a stripper pole:biggrin:

how Tom always asks someone to taste his beer before he drinks it at the raft off? Barbi is a bright woman and could take care of Tom in the snap of a finger. And if it is anything like our circumstance, Jill does better financially if I am dead, but she choses to let me live.

Stripper pole? Nah. Prisim ball? Nah. And Tom, auctioneer emertius or not, you are banned from the SS head area.... and stay the hell away from my cooler too.
