I am preparing my 18' Donzi for Winter storage and have a problem - the length of the boat/trailer is about 26' when you consider the tongue and outdrive sticking out. Is it a big job to remove the outdrive for storage?

It's a MerCruser.
Remove the trim rams,put it in forward gear,remove the speedo hose,remove the 6 drive nuts..alpha will slide out,bravo you may have to lift the tab that the cable slides into..when reinstalling greece the ujoints and make sure you get a new drive gasket or orings,then touque the drive bolts to 60ft lbs.

Thanks for all the good information. I pulled the outdrive today. I did not have to disconnect the speedometer cable (?). Did I miss something important here?

I can sure make a case for buying a stand for it;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCRUISER-OUTDRIVE-STAND-BRAVO-ALPHA_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a570Q7c39Q3a 1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2 ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem300264710447QQitemZ30026471044 7

It really protects the drive and the price is a heck of a lot cheaper than any damage that would happen to it if it were to fall over while you have it leaning in the corner.

George is right. They are awkward pieces that do not lay or set up well compared to getting a roll around stand. I bought one through CP Performance that is a little more heavy duty than the ones on ebay for $99 and I love the ease of moving it around the shop, and you can work on the drive while it is on the stand (remove the lower foot). My two cents, Bill

That's a great idea guys. I found if you swivel the front seats facing each other it lays on them just great!:bonk:

Actually, that is something I will consider - seems like it would be simple to build w/2x4s as well. (stock market has suddenly made me quite thrifty).

It may very well cause a permanent depression in the seats. Foam has very good memory properties but if it is compressed for too long, it often doesn't recover.

That was a joke! Hell, I don't let people sit on them for very long, no less boat parts!:embarasse

An Alpha I weighs about 85 pounds.....without a 14 pound SS prop on it. Take the prop off first. John
