I found this project that needed a little help.

Before we rip each other over the Politics section. I thought we can get back to Donzi's

A couple of you have the story and can play along!

I would be interested in seeing the stringer work, when we get to that point.

Vested parties need to know...

Trueser
10-04-2008, 12:14 PM
Poodle, Can you ship it to my office? Thanks.
Roadtrip,
I talked with him again today and he guarantees that the cracks will never come back.
Here are the updated pictures from this morning.

The stringers were wet or the wood was completely GONE all the way forward past the fuel tank. The transom was shot all the way.
Fuel tank was still intact new one on the way!

gcarter
10-04-2008, 01:01 PM
Are those stringers just butted into the transom? If so, is he going to do something in addition to what we see?

Are the stringers pine . . white pine? I see knots in the boards, aren't those weak points?
the stringers in my Corsican looked to be mahoghany when I expesed them while installing the new transom . . ?

All the original stringers I've seen were clear pine, whether "white" or not, I don't know.

Mike didn't, his glass guy did.

Trueser
10-05-2008, 08:19 AM
It's about time someone figured this out. They lifted the deck with the console. Used that as the lifting point.

Let me load up the rest of the pictures.

Trueser

The front and rear hatch are at a point that it would be easier to make a mold and make new than repair.

Does anyone need any?

Trueser

Mike didn't, his glass guy did.

George,
I gave up my desk job the bailout plan just did'nt help.

Trueser

Old fuel tank.

Stringer,
Yes they are pine. Once they are encapsulated in glass and mat they will be installed. The strength is the glass.

The wood in the old stringers were soaking wet or gone. Bug intrusion.

Mike, so whats going to stop the sap from the pine from bleeding? Usually it will cause the fiberglass to delaminate from the pinewood after a period of time..

Sister? The best post is the last!

Anyway I should have an update on the hatch this week and I think they may finish up on the hull and start on the deck.

How many hatches are we going to need?

Poodle,
Make sure you take some pictures of you deck so I can show him.

Fix,
I will have to check on the wood also. The sap should not be an issue. The original ones lasted 20 some years and they were never sealed up.

Trueser, This is going to be a great project. Now I am getting Jealous. First Ed, then MeChary, then Buiz, Then Tex, then Cliff and now you. So looks like we will have 4 CriterionII and 4 Standard versions, OK who has the SS. Soon the Critters will out number the classics. Approximately 25 Criterion s and we have 8 on the board that I know of. Looks like I need ti make up some more special Criterion stickers. Truesr yours will be at Cumberland May, so clear your rear window.

Trueser
10-13-2008, 12:49 PM
Ok I need to come clean on this.

This is Mark's boat I am just the project manager. He has decided to use my glass guy to re-store the boat.

I will keep everyone updated with the progress along with Pictures.

Looks like he should be starting on the deck this week. I should also have a better cost on front and rear hatch.

Sorry about the confusion.

I've got to say that Mike is a real stand up guy. He located Tom a couple of years ago when he and Matt were redoing their Z-29. Then Tom did Mikes C-22. Being 1200 miles away from me, Mike is a real asset with all the photo documentation, and quality control. Tom is really getting things done, delivered to him on the 25th of September with a tentative pickup date of late October, I think he is ahead of schedule. Thanks Mike for all the help.

Everything came out great, the boat looks fantastic. Mark already slipped in the rear cockpit; we were thinking he will have to rig this boat in his birthday suit so he won't scratch anything.

We have to keep up the pressure and make sure he gets this done for AOTH!

Got the critter home yesterday after 21 hrs on the road through snow, ice and freezing drizzle. Knocked the trailer connector off the bumper and a side marker lamp off the trailer with a chunk of ice in the road about the size of a bowling ball. Also I learned that a bottle of rum makes a great windshield washer and deicer fluid.:boggled: Also the license plate from the trailer is somewhere in southern MO.or northern OK. Spent a little time getting the shipping wrap off and wiping it down this afternoon. Can't wait to get this christmas stuff out of the way so I can start the reassembly started.

BigGrizzly

change the air filter and you have a chance. If not a performer Rpm ail make it work. The other issue is the hedders if CMI is used the jumper hose needs to be on the side. Mine is on the top and touches the hatch support X which you don't have I think mine is the only one with it. I guess I need to bring some special Criterion props to Cumberland. Or maybe I need to drive south if there is a spear room and food.

Griz & Buz, Had a new hatch reproduced and that removed the 3/4 inch sag and added about 3/4 arch back into the hatch. I mocked up a tall deck 427 bare block with aluminum heads, and exhaust. The merc intake manifold for a 540 needs no spacers as it would if I used an after market manifold. The mocked up engine assembly was 1" too tall to close the hatch. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will fit now. If it is still too tight I can lose the 1" spacer under the carb.

Thanks for the kind words breeze.

I just talked to Garry and the performer manifold won't change a noticable amount of HP with that engine. BTW that 3/4 inch is monumental. I wish I had done it but it is a $$$ thing with me at this point. I got some thing special for you.

farmer tx
12-22-2008, 08:15 PM
Yeah, but a performer manifold requires an adapter between the head and manifold on a tall deck engine.
Wow, I just noticed the photos were restored on the first few pages of Mikes thread. Thanks Scot!!

You need to call and ask again a lot of stuff is not on the web site, or try a Weiland sealth. Even if it needed an adapter its still better then a hole or scoop. Actually they had put an adapter on a Donavon and picked up some more low end and no loss at top end.

Mike( and MP)bring it on. We have spare bedrooms and lots of groceries. I have been snowed under with work but have managed some progress on the Criterion. After getting it back from Tom it looked so good that the rest of the parts looked like $hit. So the transom assembly, gimble and inner plate needed a little attention. Rear engine mount, trans and bellhousing also looked crumby. After some refinishing those I am in the process of mocking up the transom hardware, redrilling mounting locations in the transom is not a job for the faint at heart. Chicago to Amarillo is about $85. one way. I could scratch up a round trip if your willing.

Sorry about the size, new computer I am having trouble resizing,

Guys before I did the Konrad I did measure mine and I had measured it at least once a year due to memory and discussions about which drive is lower or better. Any way with my TRS bottom ventilation plate parallel (level) with the bottom of the bottom of the hull, my ventilation plate was just under 3/4 inches above the bottom of the hull. As close as I can tell Farmer Tex's is the same position. I did not however measure the prop shaft height, but it is easy to figure that out. The answer to your next question is yes the Konrad is shorter. As for Marks boat it looks aw some. If I only had the funds, I would be living with Mike or Pearson. T man do you the transom plate or the actual drive itself. The foot print of the Konrad is exactly the same minus 1/16 border. It fits in the same holes as the TRS. and the input shaft is the same. The drive Lower leg is shorter than the TRS, which brings the prop shaft 1.7 inches higher than the TRS. This is their measurement but mine is 2.1 inches. All the hardware is in exactly the same spots like the external hydraulic steering. I will get the measurements of the transom plate in the morning.

I need to thank the three M's, Mike, Matt and Madpoodle for their help last weekend on project critter. There are not many places that friends will travel across the country to help a guy rig a boat. In three day they helped me accomplish what was at least three weeks work or more, and many trips in and out of the bilge. Also having a great time doing it. The problem solving of four combined minds was great, not everything fell into place. We also missed the supervision of the BigGrizzly, wish you could have made it down Randy. I here there are going to be 4 criterions at AOTH, hope I can make it 5. As of today I have a huge selection of stainless steel hardware that I need to sort and inventory.

Some how I will make it. I have hated the inside of my engine compartment. It still won't look great but at least I will know where everything is. I really wanted to re do the complete wire harness but after I started I found out I bit off more then I wanted to chew. At this point I have an empty bilge, an engine that should be refreshed, and a sore back after getting stuck between the seat tub and the boat side. The good part is I got out that darn pesky wire that did not go anywhere:cussball: I have 29 days to get the engine done and dynoed and back in or pay hell with the wife:eek::eek::eek: She actually said " I got you the Konrad now get your butt in gear I want the boat sea trialed for at least 5 hours before we go to Cumberland":lightning:lightning:lightning

Just so the March Critter Crew doesn't think I've been sitting around on my thumb, here are some update pics of the engine compartment. I've had to fab some brackets for the remote oil filter mount, the barrel canon plug, and ignition control. Also it took a while to plumb the fuel delivery system from Raycor to Demon. It's just mocked up now because the exhaust needs to come back off to give better access to the engine compartment. After harvest I will start on the dash wiring, and get the dash inserts reproduced.:smash::nilly:

Just wasn't comfortable moving my hand from the throttle to the two trim switches and back again. So I mounted a remote set of drive trim switches in the floor. It should make things a little smoother.

You will, I have the front of the motor done (pulleys, brackets, adjusting brackets are all mounted). I have the oil system ready. I ended up just getting the hardin-marine block adapter because the inlet and outlet fittings are 3/4" so I wouldn't be downsizing them at all. I feel safer with 3/4" rather than 1/2" to 3/4" then back to 1/2" since I have an oil bypass.
Now i'm just waiting for my fuel and oil lines to come in. I already have all the fittings for them. And lastly I'm waiting for my ignition and carb to come in now. Engine compartment is completed.
