The Evinrude motor is a 1990, believe the hull is mid 70's. Looks like a good price to me. Try this for a link to the boat.

Fair deal but no longer has a floor locker as the new tank is evidently there.

Motor is 1990's vintage but the hull is a 1976 which would make it one of the 200 that supposedly were built in the 70's. That motor is on the small side to push that heavy a hull I would think.

Greg, Re: fuel tank how big would a standard tank be in a 1976 boat like mine? The 18' I had tank didn't interfer with the well, but on the 16' app. 6" comes into the well. Would this be original ? HIGH LIFE

"HIGH LIFE", I believe that the original gas tank in the 70's era OB 16 was 25 gallons. It should not have impacted the small floor locker area but "BUIZILLA" would probably be able to comment on that better then I can.

Was your tank replaced at some point?

there are alot less than 200 produced more like 170 the tank on a 16 is a 23 or 25 gallon depending on the supplier they sit just under the drivers feet the back end and then go forward to the fill and usually have a site gauge in the floor to replace them correctly the deck needs to be lifted unless you cut the floor
moving the tank will change the COG of the boat not sure if it will help or hinder ride and handling
the tank did not interfere with the locker tub they share a bulkhead

So "Mattyboy" the location of the 25 gallon tank as you just described would not then interfere with the small floor locker in any way?

There are probably pictures somewhere on this site of a 16 OB with the deck pulled that would visually show the location of the gas tank.

And was the gas tank location identical for both the O/B and I/O hulls that were made in the 70's ?

I have never seen one with the deck off, so I can't comment.. AFAIAC, a 25 gal tank with today's clamp on's is a 2 hour ride... that's worthless... Gilligan did better than that..

it would make sense now would it???? figure the guy glassing in the bulkheads only has to remember one measurement
a topless OB looks the same as my IO sans the floatation foam
there ya go you made me say the F word i hope you are happy

the only change to the location of the tank in a 16 is when they went to the larger 40 gallon tank it was moved forward not back so the front bulkhead was moved forward hence so did the front lifting eye

So as the 16 Classic evolved and the need for a larger gas tank arrived with the current boats it is interesting that the builders enlarged forward to the bow. Tells you something about the C of G with modern powerplants and associated weight. Agree that 25 gallons is very low for a modern eggbeater's and the associated power "BUIZILLA".

The tank in my boat must be original because the tub is molded where the tank extends into the tub area. I would try to include pictures, but it's RAINING like crazy here in Ma. good thing I just had a new toneau cover made last week!!! Black w/ red stripe. HIGH LIFE Greg call me 781-740-0852

I just went out and measured, the tub is moulded, and the gas tank comes into the area 10.25". this make it easy to remove the sending unit and the pickup w/fuel shut off is under the opening with the tub in place. When I gassed up I should have topped off to verify the total gallons, instead I only put in 20 gal. HIGH LIFE
