View Full Version : X-18 for sale

Details:

1976 X-18, 350 Goodwrench (new engine bought in '05 or '06), 4-barrel, new water pump, hoses, belts, chrome valve covers, tuneup, oil pan, you name it- done 3 months ago. Boat sits on a possibly original 2-axle steel trailer that is roadworthy but is ugly in my opinion. Interior is o.k. but could use replacing after another season.

It could use a serious buff job and some restoration and I have attempted to reflect this in the price (a couple gauges aren't working, trim tab switch quit working, throttle quadrant is stiff due to probably an improper installation). I use the boat as-is and take care of it but it's certainly not a show-boat. Some of you will remember that this is the boat that the first Porsche/BMW dealer in AL owned and was regularly driven by Bobby Allison- this is the boat that they attempted the distance record with. I have no idea what they are bringing these days but I will take $7500. I am sure that there's someone out there that is looking for a classic with an interesting history. And I am sure that I will regret selling but I need to consider my future.

Cheers, Ben

Why Not? When I finally got off work today I went out and looked at your boat, but it was getting dark, the weather was soooo nice. once these real job things get done Your 18 will be a joy to work on, cause I don't have to start at 6:00am and get off at 7:00pm. Hang in there....

Mike, what the Vol means is this X-18 used to be my little jewel for over 10 years, and I love it dearly. He is scared that I will have to have it back and spend his boat money on it instead of his triple hatch. hmmmm! I hope Ben doesn't mind me putting some pics of it from when it was going for the worlds record. What a wonderful piece of Donzi history. More pics please!!! Just a Racin! Donzi Racin that is.

Yep, that's it. Sorry, didn't mean to scare you, Mike. Still no rush on the triple. And yes, now is a great time to be working outside. I just got in from "playing" with a different one :lookaroun:

It's definitely a rough business right now. Hope it gets better for you soon.
On the flip side if you are buying there are some amazing deals to be had.
I just bought a Beneteau this week, been talking to the guy for about 3-4 months. I finally just threw a ridicoulous offer out and he took it without even a counter offer.

Guys,

I have decided to put the X back out there. Several of you expressed serious interest in the boat before I made the decision to keep it.

Here are some pics from this weekend!

A couple more pics from yesterday- great day on the water and a visit to a new waterfront restaurant. 5 minutes by car, 10 minutes by boat, so gotta take the boat! And the dog...

Great idea using a guard dog on a parked X-18
I'm sure he understands the true value of these boats
even in a down market.:)

You would think someone would snatch it up! It's heading to ebay if someone on the Registry doesn't grab it soon. I put it on Craigslist and have rec'd about 20 inquiries from people all over the place.

Price drop to $7300. Come on guys, find a friend looking to get into the Donzi experience and a desirable model to boot!

I can't speak for everyone, but when this economic vomitorium passes, I'm going to go upside my head with a brick for not grabbing this thing.:frown:

Good luck Ben.

That's one cool X.

Thanks, Chappy. If it sells, I will probably be saying the same thing next season- but truthfully I am going to get a 22 next, so not really getting out of Donzis (but perhaps one with some history behind it). I am surprised that no one has jumped on the boat from the Registry but I suppose that most people already have one, coupled with a tough economy. It's headed to ebay, I guess. What kind of skiboat can you get for $7500 these days? Not even a Bayliner.

I may throw a goofy windshield and huge lifting hooks on it, state that it came off of Madoff's yacht and get $15k for it.

Tell Brother this one can not be beat while he is still looking for Ford power. This Donzi came from Birmingham. I bought it from a commadore of a yacht club that lived in Birmingham. That was around 20 years ago. It has had quite the history. Ben has done a great job of researching it's history. It is super when you know the complete history of a 32 year old boat. Would also be glad to give anyone that is lucky enough to get this one, the full history of the 10-12 years that we owned it. Tom

It's amazing. I can find a buyer in St. Maarten for an overpriced 38 Fountain or a buyer in Ukraine for an overpriced Wellcraft (which is a piece of crap) but I can't find a buyer for an underpriced 18' Donzi (perhaps the most interesting 18 out there besides Geo's- which I thought was a deal) anywhere.

God, I hope Obama's regime turns things around or at least makes people think things are turning around because this is unsettling.

I have offered just short of a handjob and owner financing and still can't get anyone to at least come see it, call, ask for pics, etc. with only a couple exceptions. Unbelievable.

I'm going for pizza.

Hell, with owner financing, I am at your door step saturday morning. What is the down payment? hahahahahahahah We have not forgotten you. I absolutely love that boat and it is so much nicer now than when Ben got it. I am working on it. Thanks, Tom
