I finally put in the 500 h.p!!! Anyway it spins at 4700 rpm with a mirage plus 25. The drive is stuck in not trimmed out. What do you think @ 27 cleaver? 22 classic. thanks, Eddie

Not a cleaver. Cleavers are old technology and don't work that well. Sounds like you have a good prop...HP 500's max rpms are 5200. Get some seat time and play with the trim. As you trim out the rpms will increase as will your speed. Just don't over trim as some people do. The rooster tails are nice to look at, but unless you have a surface piercing prop/drive, it usually has gone over the efficiency point of drive angle.

I agree, cleavers are old school. I like the way my 22C handles with the 4 blade Bravo 1. It is a medium bow lift and the Mirage + is a high bow lift. The Bravo 1 gives you the option of putting the bow in when it is rough, where the mirage is more flighty even with no trim. I can't trim much with the Mirage untill I get up over 60mph. I would think you should be able to spin a bigger prop as I am running a stock 496 with 26 Bravo 1 to 5000. I can also spin a labbed 27 Mirage to 5000. I would think you should be able to spin at least a 28 Bravo 1. There are a few prop guys that I am sure will help you get it dialed in.

Good Luck

Not another prop thread

I'd try a Turbo TXP 3 blade. I'd prop the boat to about 5100 RPM WOT so you don't bounce off the limiter unless you get way too much trim in the chop so you may want to get a couple demo props between 25P and 27P to test.

Griz or Poodle should be able to help you out.

I spin a 25 Mirage+ to 5000 with my stock 502 Mag, so I would expect you to need a bit more. I think RickSE spins a 27 M+ on his 500HP (?)

Is the trim down or trimmed out? I was thinking of a 30 cleaver trimmed out.

Considering the engine should be making more power than stock with the updated cam, exhaust, and carb something seems off.

Some things to look at:
Carb settings... air/fuel ratio
Timing... did you wind up timing it over 3k RPM?
current prop... any dings?
Tach... Is your tach really correct?
Fuel pump... did you get the Holley Blue pump yet?

You should be spinning that 25p over 5k RPM without trying.

I think you might like the Hydromotive Quad IV... considering you are still hung up on the cleaver, and it's a cleaver-ish 4 blade that shouldn't blow out planing and give the cleaver-ish ride. http://www.hydromotive.com/int_quad4.html

Ezervos - based on my best results to date you might pick up a bit more with a 27 Mirage (old style, not the plus). I spin that at 5000 rpm in my 22ZX with 502 Mag with myself and 3/4 tank of fuel and best yet is 75.6 mph on gps the other day. And you should be a couple faster than me with the lighter Classic hull.

Now you have had this boat for a while before you put in the new engine, so you should know how to drive it. So when you say the drive is stuck in are you saying the drive is broken? If that engine is 500 HP and your drive ratio is 1:5 to1 and you only spin a 25 M+ at 4700, you need to trim it out. If you really have 500 horse power and the drive is trimmed out the correct angle and you still don't go way past 5000 RPMs there is a engine problem. That boat and 500 hp should turn a 26 or 27.
