I have a 1996 22 c with the Merc 502 package and a Vortec Supercharger and it has the old 25P SS Mirage Prop on it. When tested by the Supercharger installer he put a 29 pitch prop and it was pretty fast, maybe 85mph. Anyone have a suggestion on a proper prop for this setup?

Also I know that I need to add hydraulic steering, The installer said for $1,800 I could add hydraulic assist or for $5,000 go with a full hydraulic setup, any comments? Would the assist be enough for safety?

Thanks.

Best thing to do is test a few different props if you can. I have found out 1st hand that what works on one boat, won't on another. I have a 496 procharger on in a 04 Classic and put on a 27" Hydromotive Q4 based on the fact that the Q4 worked well for alot of Classic owners, and Catch22 was running one on his 454 procharged Classic. I spent 2yrs being scared to death anytime I went over high 60's with that prop. I recently switched to a 29" Mirage + and it is a much better boat all around and can easily run high 70's without too much concern. I can now easily get into the 80's but I reserve that for when I'm alone because it's not exactly 'solid' at those speeds. Your boat will be more stable than mine as the newer ones just don't ride as stable as the older ones, so mid 80's should be more easily attainable for you. FYI I felt the 27 Q4 was a bit small and would have been better off with a 28.

My turbo prop fusion 4 29" worked best for me. 86mph- but more importantly, 8mph faster at cruise than a QIV hydromotive. But that's with an imco 2" shorty- so results will differ in your case.

Fusion 4 is a rough water big boat prop- not made for top end, but it sure does hook up and handle well. I've heard the TXP is good for top end, haven't tried it.

I would check out what these guys have to say. A bunch of the guys on this site know WAY more about what works on a Donzi than some of the prop shops.

I would imagine that pretty much any combo you can think of has been tried here.

I learned my lesson by shipping a bunch of props back and forth to Throttle up and gettin mediocre results in the end.

I would 100% go with full hydraulic to the helm and a 29 pitch Mirage Plus (or the latest and greatest Turbo)would be a great starting point. But the steering shouldn't be $3200 difference.

Actually I Sell and carry a full line of props . I have a 22 foot Criterion with a deep drive and turn a 29 TXP. I have full Hydraulic steering and 502 slightly modified 690+ Hp. and go over 86 mph on a good day with a GPS full fuel and company aboard.I can only guess at this point not knowing what Vortex (intercooled or not)and if any mods have been done. If you have a bravo1 drive then I will say a 27 or 28 TXP. If you have a shorty I would say a 29TXP or 27 0r 28 Fusion. Of course B Blades will suggest a Bravo1 then get you for labbing it

I totally agree on the $3,200. I see these dealers charging $7,000 for full hydraulic upgrade and it makes me shake my head.

Great, thanks for the advice. I'm out here in Oregon, any recomendations for a shop to install the hydraulic steering? What should I pay?

On the west cost I would go IMCO dual ram. As to cost it depends on the profit margin the dealer wants and his labor. I have Imco. I prefer the looks' as for quality, most are good and everybody uses the Char-lynn helm so its down to the rams that you prefer..

Yep, they are all pretty good. I have seen some IMCO's go at a pretty good price. I put one on my 26. Hardin (MAYFAIR) also has a nice system. I put one of those in the X-18

Mayfair are good I know Bret Mays and he is a cool guy and has brains too. I went with Imco because I like the look and the kit for the TRS was the best price and it was all SS.

Donzi uses ZEIGER ...I put it on my 22C so have few others...I highley suggest FULL HYD STEERING for those speeds:smash: Paul Everett is one great guy. I delt with him personally when installing my Full Hyd Sys $3995.00...they are a first rate operation and I recommend them to everyone.:cool:

I have a stock 502mag running a 26 Mercury Racing Bravo One Labbed Prop...
Myself and a few other's luv it...The only way to figure out what u like is to test test test props...different drivers equals different results etc...only YOU know what you like...testing and dialing in ur boat is part of the fun...:smash:

Goodluck and keep us posted on ur results..:):)

It should be a 6 hour job tops. So 6 hours times their hourly rate.

$1800 installed sounds cheap for an add-on and $5k sounds expensive for a full system.
