Silent Choice, killer stereo system, and the Volvo DPX drive.

1996 22' Classic (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-Donzi-Classic_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a570Q7c39Q 3a1Q7c66Q3a3Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286 Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem330264108433QQitemZ330264108 433) in Toronto, on ebay.

I thought of your boat when I saw this... If this boat wasn't so far away...

Sure would like a DPX for my Minx.

It's not the "X" unit .. it's the regular DP ....
Why does it say the engine is a Merc 454 but it has a Volvo drive ? ?

I don't mind checking it out for someone if they are interested

Good catch on the regular DP as opposed to the DPX.
Below is a pic of my DPX for comparison purposes.

The Volvo 7.4 is a GM 454 block with VP components, same block as the Merc and its Merc components. I don't know why he called it a Merc, just as I don't know why he never described the Volvo DP outdrive in the ad, which imo is an attractive feature.

If anyone is interested in this boat shoot me a PM as I would have some opinions and comparisons to share with you.

I can tell you why they called it a Merc motor; why they didn't mention the Volvo drive; and why they have 'thru haul' exaust.

It's being sold by a used boat dealer.

Not to say the boat isn't great - just that the dealer doesn't know anything about it.

Several years ago we had a 22 for sale as well. I didn't know anything about it; heck, I never even went up to that office to take a look at it and I'm always looking for an excuss to get out of my office and on the road for a Friday (esp since our delta office is roughly on my way home...) The salesman who listed it didn't know anything about it either, so I'm sure our ad was pretty pathetic and full of random BS as well. The positive side is we sold it. Of course, if we were to list it now I'd be all over it. You know, for you guys...:)

But shouldn't ANY boat salesman at least know that it's a 'HULL' not 'Haul' ?
And dont get me going about 'transons' 'strapes' and 'chimes' either :biggrin.:

You'd be surprised.....

Or if you've been around the industry very much, maybe you wouldn't :boggled:

Steve when I got off the wrenches in 86 and became a yacht broker it was a decent profession with knowledgeable boat people, us old timers have a saying of "Look What Slithered In" the class of characters that work in this now field has gotten pretty bad! Almost daily I say I am glad I am as old as I am! I don't want to be around to see what the new generation has in store for the world!

Kind of sounds as if in some circles boat brokers are becoming the new 'marine version' of the old 'used car salesmen' .....

Could their lack of knowledge result in some unexpected good deals for buyers or will it always be a 'buyer beware' situation like it has been
in the case of the used car lot ?

Yes, unfortunately...
