could use some help

Have a 16' with a transplanted merc 350, the previous owner placed the battery quite far up in the bow, very difficult to get at and kinda scary, would it have been placed there because of weight, if I can relocate is there a recommended location ?

My 18 came with the battery under the rear seat in the storage compartment,,,, I moved it to the engine compartment as far foward as possible
