What is there to say about my OMC Cobra 5.0 V8

Hello!

The title says it all. What is there to say about my OMC Cobra 5.0 V8 (Ford?) and its outdrive?

Just purchased a 1993 Donzi Sweet 16 with this engine.

Welcome! Are you sure it's Ford? Could be, but most likely it is a Chevy block... The 5.0L Chevy is the 305 ci. Is your distributor on the fore or aft end of the engine block?

I have the Cobra outdrive, mine has been abused by past owners, but is still running :crossfing:. It is a similar outdrive to the Volvo SX, and some people prefer the Cobra/King Cobra drives to Merc.

The boat aint pretty. Need a good polish. I`ll post more pictures this weekend.

Whoaaaa, now... that is a pretty boat - it's a Classic, after all :wink:. Plus, I've always been a fan of black & white Donzis. I laugh when I see one, though... reminds me of a quote:

A friend of mine had a 1996 5.8EFI package(Volvo) and he beat the crap out of that motor for years and never had problem. I remember running WFO in his boat for 30+ minutes a few times! :shocking:

I have another friend that has the same package and he is much easier on his but again no problems.

I know in 1996 the EFI 5.0 Fords were 220hp and the carbs were 205hp. So, I am guessing you have 190-200??? Just a guess though.

If memory serves me right, 2 barrel carb 195hp, 4 barrel carb 215hp can't help with torque. I had a slightly worked 302 in a 91 16, GT40 heads, 30 over bore and a mild cam with a 2 barrel its best ever was 59.7.

Randy and I more then agree on that point, both the Cobra and King Cobra are far better drives then Merc's. Merc is not about longevity but more like planned obsolescence, if Volvo and OMC had gotten together a few years sooner Merc would be sucking hind tail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
