I run through hull exhaust and the water pick up is in the bottom of the boat (raw water pump is mounted on the motor). So the water pick up, raw water pump and anything to do with exhaust has nothing to do with the outdrive but yet I still have these intakes on the front of the drive. Should I close them off?

The idea came to me when I looked at this old Monza that has the same set up.

I would. The amount of drag reduction would likely be so small it wouldn't matter but it would look cool, especially with a nose cone. I would seal up the exhaust cavity on both ends as well to lose a couple pounds of water you are dragging around inside the drive. Again, I doubt you'd be able to measure any real benifits but a little silicone and a rubber pipe cap are cheap enough...

By the way, your drive is the wrong color. If you're going old skool, Be proud of the Artic White.

A MIE 340 Mercruiser motor (with lots of MODs), Volvo 280T transom shield and a Volvo 270 drive.
A true black VolCruiser.

I have two lowers with nose cones one I plugged the other is opened. The opened one lets water go up the inside and cools the drive. It may or may not be needed but I left the new one opened.

I posted this over at iboats also hoping DonS would chime in. He did and he said, "It's not necessary to close them off, but you could if you wanted to.
The way the water tube is made, it won't even help with drive cooling,"

Thought you may like to know.
