Had a black screen then a physical memory dump to disk, the following error was reported STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x804E5160, 0x924Fa8, 0x00000000) I Googled the error and got four links to Reg Cure which I have and use regularly.

First things

Have you installed any new software or hardware?

If not, I'd go to Reg Cure, run it again - they may have put out a patch that is causing some conflicts - usually they get that kind of stuff sorted pretty soon.

That being said, if you did install any new hardware or software, you may have a memory conflict that is causing the error, and those can either be configured to run in different spots, or in some cases will resolve their own conflicts with a couple of re-boots.

Make sure your fans and filters are clean.

Component over temp can cause those types of crashes.

Just blew all of the dust out of mine the other day after random crashes.
Sure did make a mess !! Also my office runs a few degrees warmer this
time of year.

good luck

Do a hardware inspection, check your CAPS, for blown out cans.

This worked for me. Now I blow out the tower once every couple weeks. I don't recall the exact error code, but it was close.

It had a good blow job about 3 weeks back, I slide the side off every so often to see how things look. This tower is setup with 4 fans, 2 in back 1 in & 1 out, 1 on the side dedicated for the processor and 1 front to cool the drives. On a hot night I can sit close to it to keep cool!!!!

Phil,

Did you ever get this problem sorted out? If so, what did you find?

I think it is a memory issue, it has only done it (which is twice now in about a year) when I am on the net and playing a game. It does not happen using IE just with Fire Fox, been thinking of throwing another stick in anyway bumping it to 2g. There is a page full of memory tweaks & fixes on the FF site, have not done any as of yet.
