Could anyone advise me regarding the following.I have a 2000 18'classic. The silver foil like material that is behind the plastic horn cover on the starboard bow has been torn away. was this in place to keep water from entering the hull or just to protect the horn. Also am i risking any type of damage running the boat without this in place.
Thanks, Tripperjhjarley

My 2001 22 had this same high quality piece of equipment. Without the foil, it will die shortly, besides looking like the piece of Big Wheel by Mattel junk that it is.
I wouldn't worry too much about water intrusion, but it can't be good.
I was able to replace it with a high quality horn, complete with stainless cover from West Marine, adding a little bling to the nose in the process.
I also have the WM horn, like Todd says a better item.
