I was wondering what hp was available on a 1997 454 (in a C-22).

Thanks

I may be wrong but I think the 7.4 was 330 and the 454MAG was 385

For what it's worth, I own a 98' 22 with a 97' 454 in it. HP is 300. But ... they also made a 330 that year.

The engine is a 1997 454 mag. I think it is a carb motor because it has the flame arrestor shroud.

My 1997 is a 454 (7.4L) rated @330 HP. I believe it was available with a Weber carburetor or EFI

Taken from the 1997 Mercruiser engine specifications brochure. I never throw away anything.

454/7.4 L - 4 bb Carbuerator - 300HP
454/7.4 LX EFI - Elec Fuel Inj - 300HP
454/7.4 MPI - Multi Port Injection - 330HP
454 Magnum - 350HP
454 Magnum MPI - 385HP
454/7.4 L - Inboard series - 310HP
454/7.4 L MPI - Inboard series 310HP

Additionally, keep in mind that Mercury changes it's engines from time to time. So, it means that the engine production year might not match the boat manufacture year. IE: If Donzi had 5 or 50 more engines already bought, and they were changing boat model years, they wouldn't throw the old ones away. They're going to be put into production boats coming down the line. So, it's hard to match a model year boat with a model year engine. You go by serial number of the engine, then consult a Mercury spec sheet to see where your serial number fits into Mercury engine production dates. Naturally, boat builders try to order as they need the engines. But, consider this, your are a boat builder, you find a Mercury distributor that has engines leftover from Mercury 454 Generation 5's, and he offers them to you at $1,000 below wholesale because he wants to move them and reorder Genreation 6 engines. Are you going to take them and save the money? Maybe someone who works for a boat builder can shed more light; but, my guess is that as long as the warranty is still good, and it's just last generation engines, the builder might buy them.

Help me somebody. I'd love to know what others think.

I just looked at the boat you are questioning. It has a carbuerated 454 Magnum, 350 hp. The boat has less than 30 hours on it.
