I picked up a 1972 x 18 I think it may be the second one built based on a tag I found. I need to put a motor and drive in the boat, I am considering a 383 with about 400 hp what x dimension should be used and does anyone know anything about blueprint engines. I am going with a bravo drive and perhaps a shortie. Any information on setup would be a help including props. Any ideas of how fast with that set up.
Thanks

I think the 383 is a good choice. I Did a 408 in a older 18' and it was a Little too much. DonziRacer Toms 22 has a 383 and It runs 65. ( I was impressed) I also did a 3" high X, It kicked Azz going fast & straight, but suffered allot turning just cruising around. Try the stock X and a shortie later.

What is the stock x dimension and where am I measuring from. The boat had a volvo outdrive and it has been glassed over so it is fresh and solid. Thanks

Go with the stock X. I have that number somewhere. I will look for it

I reglassed mine and am very happy I went stock. Going stock and use a shorty if you want to play with the drive height. It keeps the CG lower and you don't want to space down to get good handling.

The 383/Bravo 1 is a great combo for that boat. 400 hp would be perfect. I have around 350 and can hit low 70's (on a cool day and light load).

Post some pics.

No it is a yellow hull. It is in great shape for its age

Other than a tag on the rear seat in the engine compartment is there any other areas to look for what number hull it is. Do you know anything about this hull. Who has hull #1
Thanks

Leave th X at stock height. Too many variables and issues. You need to craw be for you walk. Do it right first then play later.
