Great set-up You did on the Formula. If I was back east I would buy Yours in a heartbeat. Looking at a 1970 out here in CA, but I'm not sure it's the same as Yours. What do You think?
Regards, Lars.

That looks like the same hull as mine but different, probably earlier nameplate on the side. There is a guy, not sure if he posts here, who had one of these in Charleston, SC with a souped up 2.5L Merc that did 82 mph...
Let's see my friend. 82 mph/17'= 4.8mph per foot. That means that the boys that have 40' Skaters and Nor-Tech boats better get a speed around 193 mph to be competetive. Everything is relative isn't it. I might pick-up this local Formula 17' since it's kind of rare and well built. You said in Your comment that the outboard thing isn't as much Your cup of tea as You had hoped, how come You feel that way? Just curious .:drive: 193 mph

The sound, look and feel of the outboard I do not care for. We took the outboard Formula out with the 16 Donzi v drive one day. The 16 Donzi won out on so many levels (even though it was several miles per hour slower it felt faster) that was the deciding factor...

So I have decided to concentrate my future boat efforts on my 1972 Chris Craft XK18 (was jet will be surface drive) with 3.8L supercharged engine.

I understand Your point of view. When You have collectibles like a V-drive Donzi and a XK18 it's hard to be happy enough with a little outboard. Keep us updated on Your XK18 project, that is one rare, goodlooking model! Best of luck and continued great boating.

Hello,

Please advise me as much as possible as to what is this Formula boat.

Q1: Is it still available for sale?

Q2: How well does it perform with the 200 HP outboard? Top speed, acceleration, handling, ride, etc.

Q3: How much maximum HP and speed can the hull handle?

Q4: What in your experience are the pros and cons of this boat, especially the hull design, as well as the passenger compartment configuration?

I am about to invest considerable additional resources (time, money, effort, learning-curve, sentiment, sweat, blood and fears) into a Donzi Sweet 16 Classic (w/ outboard) I just purchased, awaiting delivery from NJ. It currently has a 150 HP Johnson outboard. I wish to determine which hull, Donzi or Formula is the best possible small outboard-powered performance platform available.

Please send any pictures of the Formula you can, whether or not it remains available for sale. Please post, or respond directly to:

Did Chris Craft make an XK18? I am familiar with the XK19 as one of my best friends had one for years. Bill

Yes, an 18 foot, 18 degree jet drive hull not at all like the XK19.

I have never seen one of the XK18s. Thanks for the heads up. Bill

Update: Trailer has been sold, Todd chairs sold also, hull is sitting on blocks, best offer of any amount of money gets the hull, you must bring your own trailer. The ONLY place this hull gets moved by me is to the Landfill if not sold by Christmas. Come and get it, ya'll!
