I bought a manual Vance JP with a 10" setback, but then realized I wouldn't be able to tilt my motor all the way up. Help...

I was talking to a friend of mine last night and he thinks that I can get away with the jackplate that I have. It's 10" back, because the transom was setup for inboards and I'm not cutting it, only strengthening it.
