Welcome to the madness. My 16c came with about the same setup. Does it have trim tabs? I will say that mine porpoises bad between 35 and 45 mph and chine walks bad above 53 mph.

Drive trim would not correct this, but some mild tab does. Drop a little tab when cruising between 35 and 45 and the porpoise goes away completely. Same thing with the high speed chine walk, although dropping a little tab scrubs a mile and hour or two off my top end.

Take it easy at first, these are small boats with big power and drive differently than most other boats. They turn on rails and if you over do it, they can bite back a little. Once proficient, you will really enjoy driving it.

The 18 is a more stable platform then the 16, I owned a 16 for 3 years and rode/drove a buddies pretty hot 18. Like Don says take it easy for awhile, you need what each and everyone of us needed "Seat Time"! Best of luck with your toy!

One last thing, make changes in drive or tabs slowly and also make minute changes till you get use to it. 16's are sensitive to small changes. First time I tried my trim tabs, I dropped them all the way before taking off and getting on a plane. Damn boat plowed through the water and almost flipped on it's side. Even when pulling skiers, I only use a little tab to get on a plane. When no skiers, just drop the drive and no tab at all.

Just as you start chine walking,, a LITTLE pressure on the wheel(same direction as prop rotation) Had a 16' slightly modified for around 30 or so years.................Ed:canada:

Mostly boating in Lake Ontario for now.
Could someone explain what chine walking and porpoise are, I'm not sure and do want to understand:canada:

Porpoising is the tendency of the bow of the boat to go up and down uncomfortably. Chine walking is the tendency of the stern of the boat to go side to side at high speed.
