Man I wish I was retired. Oh well, guess I'll just keep on visiting my fav websites while at work. :smash:
Google "yellowstone eruption" and start reading. This will supposedtly take out 1/3 of the USA or so. Oh and by the way, you guys did happen to notice continous earthquake activity in new places recently - RENO, NV, off the Oregon coast, and Southern, IL by St. Louis, MO. Yellowstone just happens to be in the middle of the last two I mentioned.
In the mean time, you guys in the south have fun with your hurricanes and forest fires. Us snow boys up here are just getting boats in the water now.

Good stuff. There were also scientists who thought that an atomic explosion would ignite the earth's atmosphere...
CERN has been a long time in the making. I hope some good stuff comes from it. The funny thing is that not much truly practical is expected to be gained from it but it is an awesome venture. It would never fly here in the US (just too much money for no practical gain).
We do have some cool things going on though such as the Spallation Neutron Source which should open up a whole new realm of materials research. I did some work for it for my Master's thesis.

The US could have had this technology 15 years ago had we decided to complete the Superconducting Super Collider project in Texas and spend the equivalent of what we spend every month on the Iraq debacle.

I lived in the town that housed the main office buildings and all the scientists. When they shut the project down it was a ghost town within 4 weeks. My property value fell 40% in 6 weeks!
It never ceases to amaze me how short sited our "leaders" are.
Hey know Zip about it just pasted the emailed link, not retired just take a break from my 9-5 gig!

I guess if that happens then the rising gas prices won't matter that much anymore... ;-)
