Does anyone know of a solvent that will break down 3M spray adhesive. I've tried acetone, mineral spirits, and other products like Goo-gone and Simple Green. So far nothing works.

Thanks

:smash:Cliffy,

Not sure what area you are working with, but if its the inside of any fiberglass surface, like my underside of my hatch?

I removed the hatch and used a Palm Sander and got rid of everything I didn't want...then I went over it with many , many coats of Interlux White Bilge Paint. Of course the old ugly grey color will work also... just kidding!

I used a little Orbital Dewalt - put some light grit 120 or heavier as the surface dictates.... it was sooooo quick, no mess, and it painted up great as you know.

Most of the sides and Stringers I sanded as well. I touch them up each Season....in fact...just about now.

Good Luck

if its old and dyr (not tacky) nothing will work but a new razor blade.keep it flat so you dont chip the serface your working on.

If its still tacky then try dupont 3812 or 3m adheisive remover:wink:

B. Boy....I've used "3M Adhesive Remover" comes in a small white can with red writting...Dunno if you've tried it yet or not...

One would think it would remove its sister product the glue!:crossfing:

Cliff, 3M makes the same product for clean up that you are using.

I use "Wilsonart or Sta-Put" for aerosol, or spray applications on laminate offerings and contact stuff, but it is all primarily the same gig.

They all make a thinner for their products. No biggy.

If worse comes to worse, Lacquer thinner WILL take it all off.

Lenny,
Will lacquer thinner do any harm to the gel coat?

Lacquer thinner should NOT have any effect on gel. Even acetone has a hard time having effect on cured resins. I will go try the lacquer thinner on a piece of mine for you (black LE) and let you know.

Like Lenny said, laquer thinner. I haven't found anything yet, that laquer thinner won't take off, that doesn't need to be sanded off. Once I was trying to strip an old sealer off tile, and I had bought all kinds of sealer remover, and nothing touched it. I asked an old tile man what to use, and he said laquer thinner, and it took it right off. I also use it to take off the stuff I use to refinish tubs, and it's the toughest type of paint I've ever seen. If it dries, laquer thinner won't even touch it, but it works well on the tools, and cleaning up, if you get it before it dries.

Ronsonol Lighter Fuel will cut most any adhesive and remove the residue.
Cheap and I have yet to see it harm any surface.
