On the minx's I've seen with the Italian windshield, there is some sort of black material sandwiched between the plexiglass and the boat. Looks like some sort of padding?? Does anyone know what this black strip is made of? My boat has been painted at some point, and this was removed so that now my windshield doesn't fit correctly against the hull. I was thinking some sort of felt material could work as a shock absorber, but it wouldn't dry very well if it got wet.

There is a 2 sided black foam tape, i believe made by 3M. It is cushiony and seems to work pretty well on my Plexi windshield.
Ck. your local hardware store.

YO Donzi: Your Avatar looks like it was taken heading north from the Mt. Hope Bridge. (RI) I have a picture looks just like that taken from my boat..except for the rooster tail. My drive wash is just "Vapour". I've got an stock '86 Minx. Maybe I wasn't trimmed out enough.

Mine had clear silicone in there when I pulled it off. It worked well, and I plan on using it when I put it back on.

I know mine was pulled off at some point though, so I know it's not factory.

Try www.wefcorubber.com. They have all sorts of profiles. Black, white or grey. Plan on spending $50.

DONZI: Thanks for responding. Glad to see another Donzi Classic on the bay. It's a rare scene.

My Avatar looks similar to yours but that picture was NOT taken from MY boat. That was taken from a Hacker Craft 38' Boatail Replica. Twin 454s.. (wood) Clayton, NY Thousand Islands. Not my boat. One of those times when you get to ride in someone elses boat. :smash: John

Does anyone know the thickness of the original padding on the Minx windshields? I found some neoprene tape and some PVC foam tape at reasonable prices that offer good compression and UV resistance -

I was thinking the 0.06" or 0.125" stuff??

Not replacing the plexi... just the black padding around it.

I ended up using the .125" neoprene tape... hasn't worked too well. I will probably add another layer as it could afford to be layed up thicker... also, i guess the heat caused the adhesive to make the material "shrink up", and the strips pulled away from each other  I'll be able to patch it up though, since the tape is so thin.

If I had to do it over again, I'd probably try the thicker (0.25") PVC foam tape.
