I have this 27' hull that was gutted before me and would liked to have restored her. I have searched and found nothing like it. I was told it was built by Don in 68-69 to race the miami to nassau race in the early 70s.(first deep-V hull win) There are no markings on the boat and found no pictures that reseamble this hull. I was hopeing to get info on her and see what she's worth. I had mentioned I would have liked to restore her, but don't have the time and space any more. I would like to see it done in my life time, so she needs to go. Some bad news, I had some trees removed from my property, and yes, the a-hole put one across the boat. She faired well, but did damage the top and about 14" on one side, and 10" on the other. Had a quote of two grand to fix. Any info on what she is, what shes worth, or any one interested, Please let me know.
Thanks for your time. Jim Taylor

Jim T,
Based on the strakes, it does not appear t be a Magnum, or Donzi. Possibly a Formula or a 28 Bertram Baron. I feel there is no $ significant value to the hull, I'd love to see more pics to help really ID her.

The deck makes me think it's a 28 Bertram.

I doubt it is a Bert, the only one that would come close would be the old 26, there is not enough rise in the fore deck. We need to dig a little deeper. As far as restoring it, one thing to remember is the hull is about 15%of the total build cost even starting with a new hull!

Look at this pic...

Looks like it shares a lot of the same lines... even the two overboard dumps (is that what those are? or maybe just bolts?) mid-hull are in the same position. Although I do agree, the boat in question doesn't look quite as long.

Bingo! Engines, drives, wiring, fuel tank, gel, deck hardware... you will never get your money back out of it. Get used to the term "labor of love."

Bertram Baron . . I recall there being a few on Winnipesaukee in the late 60's . . even know who owned one, named "5 Queens"

Not many made . . likely too expensive to resurrect . .:garfield:

Mario hate to rain on your parade, the strakes are wrong, below is a link to a Baron being rehabbed. Notice Bertram always brought the strakes to the bow and followed the curve upwards. The strakes on that boat run staight forward similar to European designs.

The boat in the video is significantly shorter... It looks like a Bertram 20, and the boat in question looks like a 28' Bertram Baron.

Cutwater, MOP . .
the boat in question looks like the picture you submitted, the blue boat with windshield recently spotted in FL . . on a trailer. Baron or not, same hull . . and the same thing we had on Winnipesaukee as I mentioned. I distinctly recall the sheik for it's time windsheild . .
These were all in the 27-28 ft range. Likely called a 28 but measures shorter . . twin engines, ussually Volvos.

Mario

Phil, Mario has no parade :smash::smash::smash:. . and we've had all the rain we need!

Hi Jim -

Sorry I didn't see your post! Here is the thread that the picture I posted came from. There was a small discussion about this boat, hopefully you can get a little bit of useful information from it.

The 20' Baron in the video is mine. The lines on the 20 were drawn by Ray Hunt, hence the lifting strakes going outward at the bow, same as the Bertram 25 and 31. I think the 28 Baron was drawn by Dave Napier and is easier to pull from a one piece mold. I think that Jim might have a 28' Baron hull. Would have to see more pics to verify though.
