Owner says it's a '67 Thunderbird. Let's hear some guesses.

I am cheating on this one! Read it twice and only half understand it!

The correct way to find the centre point for the radius is to measure inward from the edge of the bulkhead by the radius measurement. Do this at two points on the side and two points on the bottom. Join the points with straight lines, which will be exactly parallel to the bulkhead side and bottom edges if correctly done. The intersection of these two lines is the centre of the radius.

Now draw a line from the centre point to the side, meeting the side at exactly 90 degrees. The intersection of this line and the side is the upper tangent. Do the same from the centrepoint to the bottom, at 90 degrees to the bottom. This intersection is the lower tangent. Your arc should meet the side and bottom at these points but there will be no guesswork as to the exact position of the intersection.

This taken from the Formula Web Site's History Section

'1961 - Thunderbird is purchased by Ohio-based Alliance Machine and Foundry.
1962 - Formula is started by Don Aronow, manufacturing the original 233 Deep-V hull.
1964 - Formula is purchased by Alliance Machine and Foundry.
1969 - Thunderbird/Formula is bought from Alliance by Fuqua Industries of Atlanta, Georgia.'

So the 1967 date and the Alliance Machine tag make sense.

Its a real Formula/Thunderbird, which I never would have believed if it didn't have the original tag on the inner transom.

This era from '65 to '69 is steeped in mystery as to what boat models Formula was making and who was designing them.

I've never heard of this particular model before, and everything about it, from the hull design and deck to the strake patterns doesn't resemble any other Formula of that time that I know of.

Sorry I can't be of much help. This one is a stumper and completely new to me.

But its so weird, I'd restore and run it just to see how the hull handled. I think you would have the only one at any event.

there was actually quite a few of these built, in different lengths and engine setups. On my canal, we had 3, one outboard, and 2 were Merc I/O's, one 6 cyl, the other could have been a V8. These 3 specifically were about 19' hulls. The outboard was a 140 or 150 Merc. I spent quite a lot of time in one of the I/O's, as we skied literally every day after school. Not sure why they didn't continue the design, they ran pretty good. When I worked at Little River Marine dry storage, there were about a dozen more on the racks.. I know the wood floors and lay down seats were a rot problem after awhile..

The 1967 add refers to the "Tangent Chine"
Wish I knew how to put the photos into the forum so they don't get lost when the auction ends.

I was looking at the middle picture in the 1967 add and the boat looks like a 23' but smaller, soooooo thought it must be a 21'. This is a new one for me, did not know there was such a Formula. Did a search and found this one. Anyone ever seen this model before??

His was smaller...a 17, I believe. No windshield, but it probably had one at one time.
