We're coming up on the best time in all of sports...hockey playoffs.
So, who do you pick? Will your heart drive your decision, or your head?

FYI, Sports Illustrated (March 24) polled 365 NHL players for their Stanley Cup pick:

Detroit Red Wings......62%
Anaheim Ducks..........20%
Ottawa Senators........ 8%
San Jose Sharks..........3%
Montreal Canadiens......2%
Calgary Flames............1%

I'm going with my heart, and my head.
Wings over the Sens in 6.
I've been wrong for the last several years, so I figure we're due.

Ed, they may have 11 Cups, but only you, MOP, and Gcarter are experienced enough to remember more than one of them...... :D :D

Once the first round playoff match=ups are set, I'll post some stuff in the Sports Book section.

Good idea, boxy, hopefully I have enough money to wager on the Wings.

Ed, it doesn't matter whether the Leafs are on the list or not, you can certainly pick 'em to go all the way. Although, I must say, that is probably a prime example of your heart driving your decision instead of your head!

I miss Matty, he seemed to be very good at stirring up the few hockey nuts on this board.

No Canucks fans?
No Pens fans?
A few years ago there were about zillion Tampa Bay fans all of a sudden...I guess they have all conceded the fact that hockey in the south just seems wrong! :shark:

The Wings have to keep some bangers in the lineup and stay healthy. Will their goaltending hold up ? I think the dominator is getting tired.

Yes, we've had our share of injuries...hopefully most will be back in time for the playoffs.

I like Mike Bab**** a LOT, but he is old-school and seems to have more faith in Hasek than I do. I'd rather go with Osgood, but worry that even he is not capable of turning "red-hot" like some 'tenders often do in a long playoff run.

McCarty might play on Fri. and I wonder what he has left. Here in Toledo we dont get the newspaper coverage on the Wings and Macs personal troubles.

i am a huge fan a big supporter of the canucks... maybe next year. we still can't put the puck in the net. until we get a top line scorer, we arent going far. hopefully, we can hang on and make the playoffs. however, i don't see us going far, especially with morrison now done for the year.

AH God bless my Leafs. Rather than go for Lord Stanley, they are going for their personal best of all times.

YES sports fans, they are going for

4 STRAIGHT YEARS without making the playoffs..
You have to go back to 1928 (even before Mop,G.C. & me)
when they did 3 straight..

My heart just swells at the possibility..............Ed

but having McCarty on the ice will be mental boost for the line.
Guess we will find out if he still has it pretty quick. Bet he does!

I am suspicious of Dom as well, but Ozzie has been peppered pretty good a few times too, this season.

I am digging my Hatcher jersey out of the closet for the playoffs.

Go Wings!

Go Wings!

A mental boost for the whole team, as well, as opponents are not as likely to run at our skilled (Euro!) players.

Todd...glad to see you're still backing the Red Wings!!!

Finally play-off hockey is here and the Red Wings kicked butt last night. San Jose lost game one and so did the Sens.:yippie:

They might have enough Bangers to get them to Stanley !!!!! McCarty gets a goal today.

Holy crap, Calgary's Sarich just LEVELED Patrick Marleau of the Sharks. Blood from the nose, and from a re-opened cut above the right eye, which was originally cut when Pheanouff drilled him into the dasher earlier in the period. With fresh blood and dried blood trickling down the side of his face, Marleau puts his helmet back on, and is ready for his next shift. Another reason hockey is the best sport in the world! (Flames score on the ensuing power play, cut the lead to 3-1. Pretty intense game.)

I don't know which game it was, but the announcers were saying that one contest today had over 90 hits!
Playoff hockey, baby!

At the risk of jinxing 'em, the Wings are up 2 games to none on the Preds. Finishing a team off early gives the injured players (and the elderly!) time to rest and recover.

The Preds score two fockin' goals in 9 fockin' seconds to take a late third period lead...un-fockin'-believable! Series now 2-1 Wings instead of 3-0, fock that!

I love hockey but am almost puking trying to watch Minnesota vs. Colorado. The Av with their dark burgandy/dark blue combo, and the Wild with their Christmas green/dark red uniforms...yuk!

LOL Todd moves to Detroit and leaves the Stars to boot? Was wondering when you all were going to start a hockeye thread. Not much hockeye in Columbus, Ohio, but I'll watch a play-off hockeye game over a play-off basketball game any night of the week. Wish ESPN would show more of it over basketball.

On that note though, my Cavs are still in the bball play-offs. LOL In hockey? hummmm Pittsburgh or Detroit? Pretty much in the middle of both cities. Got to see both teams play a game in younger life......Lived in PA for a while, but never lived in MI. From process of elimination, guess I'm rooting for the Pens. LOL

I guess "trifecta" wasn't the right word but it was what came to mind at mid-night after partying and watching sports all evening. Thank goodness the Wings locked up the win in the second period so I didn't stay up for the handshakes. But last night:

The Detroit Tigers completed a sweep of the Yankees

The Detroit Pistons put away the pesky 'Sixers and advanced to round 2

The Detroit Red Wings completed their sweep of the Avs to advance to the conference finals

:):):)

Update to my PA team pick theory.....Holy cow! How does a state get 2 hockey teams in the play-offs? Anyhow, I now have the Flyers and the Penguins.......I lived closer to Philadelphia than Pittsburgh when I lived in PA. LOL Live closer to Pittsburgh now though. Sooooooooo, staying with the Penguins to win it all. :)

Jill has identified herself as a Stars fan, since we were there when they got to the Cup the last time.

I am in with the Wings.

While we rarely have a dispute about much of anything,
the storm clouds are rising.

The Wings OWN Colorado! I am not sure the 'Lanche will ever be the same, after watching the body language of their players during the 8-2 game four pasting they took. The Wings opened an old-fashioned can of Whoop-Ass on them and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving opponent!

Thursday night, Todd!
Stars vs. Wings, Jill vs. Todd...should be a heck of a matchup. Of course, imho, every hockey playoff series is a good one. Pens vs. Flyers should be an all out war. Scott, I'd also like to see the Pens in the finals, Sid the Kid is a special player and Geni Malkin is riding high along with him. Sorry, though, but the Wings will prevail for the Cup with better depth, puck control, coaching, and experience.

Todd, I'm proud of you for sticking with the Wings, plus it makes good sense. Datsyuk and Zetterburg are in(fockin')credible, Osgood is hot, our second-line is scoring, and our team depth is showing.
