On pages 18-19 of the April Powerboat is a pic of a 38 ZR. What kind of drive or whatever is on the back of the boat? Apparently Donzi is not offering any factory support since all Donzi logos have been removed from this boat and the team is switching to OL.:( Here are pics for those who haven't received their copy yet. The second one is a fairly large file for srutinizing. Thanks.:alligator

I Think thats the set back for the rudder. That boat may have some of Buzzi's Straight shaft drives. Allot of the P1 Boats have that setup.

Actually it's not a Buzzi drive but something similar. The actual part you're looking at is the support for a centrally located high aspect ratio rudder.....it's about 12" front to rear and about 4' high!!!!!!!:eek!:

The rudder, OK thanks.

It's called a Flexidrive from an Italian company called Flexitab.

A lot of their stuff looks like variations on Arneson technology with some enhancements and enough changes to allow then to circumvent Arneson patents (If those haven't already expired)

The only thing is, this boat has two engines, and two drives, but only one rudder.......
What I'm trying to say is the illustration doesn't reflect the actual installation.

It's hard to tell from this picture but it almost looks like 1 drive.

It's on this page: http://www.flexitab.com/eng_racing.htm

Perhaps a transfer case feeding both engines into one drive?

Mark, it doesn't really matter, but some high resolution pictures of this particular Donzi on the shore have been published a number of times and there are two drives, but only a single rudder.
I suppose the central rudder would only add to the low speed problems of this type of arrangement.
The high aspect ratio of the rudder probably works great at high speed though.

I googled the crap out of this boat and all I can find out is that it's powered by Sterlings. That would be about 3,000 hp into one drive. Their new Outerlimits is ready but they beat an OL to win the championship this year. Donzi should have sponsored these guys......G, just saw your post. So there are two drives and a huge Flexidrive rudder that still probably cost more than my boat!

George, a lot of new high speed Cats are running 2 non steerable drives and a single rudder.

The set up is one rudder 2 shafts. Both engines have separate Transmissions or Crash Boxes with two props, The One rudder is extended of the rear for stability, This application is great for running big water with no drive failure, The shafts have a trim set up so they can be raised or lowered depending on water conditions and speed. Look at the bottom of the MTI most of there raceboats are rudder boats.

You call it SpeedRacer, Frank calls it the trailer he rests his coffee on when he's hanging out in the shop... :D :D

Frankie, is it back from SuperBoat yet, is the interior done?
