Call a Michigan Costco. I'd buy it for you since I get a 2% rebate to make it worthwhile. Shipping might negate any savings. I'm near Detroit. Any particular make? I'll be at Costco Tue or Wed and could check price.

Ditch The 22's and get 20's, You'll cut your tire bill in half Or Better. They'll look just as good, but Fliggin 22's are high dollar. I Used to pay $1000 for 4 tires when I Had 22's after the 2nd time I switched to 20's, now I can get 2 sets for the same bucks. And I go through some rear tires, The Tirerack gets my vote also. They can remember my card # and address I call so much..

Truck tires are pricey to start with.
Then the name brands tack on even more mark-up, often without making a better product.

I paid $545 for my HD2500 tires...and thought that was a decent price. Interesting side-note...I'm taking advantage of free rotation every 5k miles, which btw is the interval they recommend. Lot's of people get lazy with rotation and suffer consequences. Works for me...oil change + rotation...easy to remember.

Ed, just talked to my brother in law, the only tire he shows in that size is the Pirelli Scorpion. His price is the same as the price you got in Toronto.

Unless the shipping and taxes are huge I would think the $172 Avons are a better deal the 5000 mile used tires?

I run a Maxxis Bighorn. For Jackson, they are studded and siped. Nice tire, great traction. Not $545.00 either.

Not to get too far away from this thread, I am considering a new nitrogen system for Alltrans. Supposedly, Nitrogen does not expand or contract with air temps. By filling your tires with Nitrogen, you get 30% better life of tire, 4% better fuel mileage, and can cap a re-tread one more time than usual. Considering I spent $200,000.00 in fuel and $40,000.00 in tires last year, could be something there. Anyone have any feedback on this? Know anyone running it? Would like some input.

Haven't looked to see the different flavors of scorps, and since we tossed mine I can't tell ya what I had compared to yours, but I can tell ya they blew chunks... you probably had the dinasour AT's, now they sucked... the latest STRa, ATR and AT are getting very high reviews. In fact the STRa is OEM on F250 and F350 where 16" and 17" E rated is specified.

Scott,
I would really appreciate the info on it. Now that I seem to be keeping my company for a while, it will make sense. I figure I can save around $8,000.00 to $9,000.00 a year on fuel and $8,000.00 on tires. The system I am looking at is $10,000.00, but will pay for itself in 8 months.

Ed, sorry about derailing your thread, I will shut up now.

Off we go on the side road again. Is Nitrogen commercially available...like at the tire store, or Jiffy Lubeish type places?

Also, on the Scorp AT's. Angel had them on her 1500 Dodge. They were just fine in the dry, but the wet...it was like ICE, they slipped all over the road. Still they wore pretty well, and I even ran them on the boat trailer for a while...but these were class C so I took them off after a few weeks.

And I'll ask my "derailed" question here as well. We need tires for a Mustang GT. currently 235/55/17

Looking to move up in size (w/ same wheels) and shopping brands. sizes looked at 255/50/17 & 275/50/17.....looking for opinions. thanks

I mean, its sort of on topic:lookaroun:

I run approximatly 250 tires, not including my personal stuff. Wonder if it is cost effective. Nitrogen is cheap and can be obtained from any gas (like welders) supplier.

Sorry for getting back on topic  But

Got 2 Avon 275 45 22" mounted, balanced and valves
$500.00 .Cheaper than 1 Original Pirelli Scorpion Zero
275 45 22" Thanks Guys

Now back to regular programming
Nitrogen is available at any welding supply or pluming/heating wholesalers.. Used to purge natural gas pipes.. Cheap stuff ..Ed

The system I am looking at uses our compressor hooked to a machine that pumps the nitrogen. I will get the specs and name of it from my mechanincs. Scott, no matter which system I get, do you think it is a wise investment for a fleet of vehicles running 250 tires? Only about 20 are recaps (don't use many caps bacuase unlike 18 wheelers who throw a cap and don't hurt anything, the engines are in the rear of the busses. About 5 years ago, I threw a cap and it tore out the oil line to the air compressor and cost me an engine)

speaking of 'caps.... our local UPS trucks are running them on the FRONT axle now.... against Fed DOT reg's of course.. :smash:

Nitro is available at the local tire shops in Detroit. I would think it would be the same case around HOU.

As for the GT, the SVT Cobra boys like the Nitto Invos, when they are stepping up in size and trying to fill the wheel wells on their Terminators.

Another tire to look at would be the Toyo Proxy4. Nice all season performance tire at a reasonable tariff.

As for the Scorps, the local Ford store tried to put those things on my 2000 Excursion and I had to threaten them with a pocket knife to make them cease in commiting such a travesty. They were the ATs. I did enjoy harassing MP about the nifty little scorpion logo on the 250 tires, until he flipped them around.
