I've got an aluminum 21" prop that came with my boat when I bought it last year (1988 Minx) and I'm looking to upgrade. Any recommendations for a good stainless prop that fits OMC? Do they make adapter hubs? Do any particular props give good all-around performance for the Minx?

I have the King Cobra 5.7L rated at 270hp, and the Cobra drive which I have read has a 1.31:1 gear ratio, however I found another website that said the drive it came with was 1.41:1. How do I find out for sure?

Manufacturer: OMC
Model: "5.7L King Cobra; 5.7 L King Cobra"
Year: 1988
Horsepower: 270.0
Cylinders: 8
Type: 4 stroke
Gear Ratio: 1.41:1
Min WOT (http://www.piranha.com/glossary.php?term=WOT) RPM: 4400
Max WOT (http://www.piranha.com/glossary.php?term=WOT) RPM: 4800
Spline Count (http://www.piranha.com/glossary.php?term=splines): 15

Thanks,
John

:wavey:Mine is a King and its a 1:43 Ratio, make sure its a King Drive with the Hump on the Top.

I run Turbo TXP props... for normal ops. try a 21 to 23 pitch, they do have a hub kit... I order mine from Poodle, but there are alot of sources...

Thanks Doc. Mine must be the 1.31:1, because it is NOT a King Cobra drive, just a Cobra. I do have the King Cobra 5.7L, however.

Poodle, do you know of anyone who got good performance out of a bone-stock Minx with the Turbo TXP? What pitch would you recommend?

my Cobra drive was either 1.75 or 1.81, can't remember..

What kind of speeds are you getting now? are you only spinning 4800 rpm? I think you can spin it 5400-5500 easily. Just switching to a stainless prop of the same style will be a good pick up. I think you may be able to use a flo torq hub and run merc props, that makes your prop choices endless.

I'm almost certain the drive ratio is 1.31:1, mated to a 270 HP 5.7L. I do not trust my tach, so I will not even bother to comment on RPMs/speed. That's on the to-do list for the winter .

So, if I have a Flo Torq II hub for OMC like this one

then I can use any prop which is set up for the Flo Torq II hub? Is this correct?
