Who has the best deal on an external steering system? Complete kit with everything?

Do a search for "external steering". There's a big thread on this topic. Several manufacturers offer kits.

I recommend a full hydraulic system with hyd helm as well.

Here's a thread, but there are more: http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37303&highlight=external+steering

I have and recommend the XS steering system. $2800 total including the adaptor plate to cover up the big hole left by the teleflex helm.

IMHO the best external hydraulic system on the market today is the Zeiger Marine (http://www.everettperformance.com/products.asp) system by Everett Performance.

This system has the narrowest mounting of any out there and uses nothing but top shelf components. In Fact, Everett makes a lot of the stuff the other guys use.

What I really like about this system is how tight it mounts. On Classics with partial cored transoms it allows you to mount it within the core material instead of having to build up the uncored area. The outside of the ram mount is only 6 5/8" out from the edge of the gimbal mount (ML). Most of the others are in the 8" - 9" range which means glass work for those of us with older Classics.

This system also provides the full range of motion vs. some of the others that only give you 44 degrees (22 on each side). In fact, they put stops in the rams so you don't bottom out the drive on the gimbal.

Ted,
Have you decided if you are going to sell your system.
