cap and rotor

does anyone know where to get a decent price on a cap and rotor set 350 mag mpi 2003 ? merc parts are outrageous !!! i had a problem with the engine missing ... finally inspected the cap .. had a small crack , i pulled it and it was really nasty in there ! suprised the thing even ran !!! thanks in advance

Try NAPA. Ya gotta have the Merc # though.

Most all marine supply houses carry Sierra, their caps are at least half the price of Merc. Sierra has a ton of Merc rip parts and are of decent quality. Automotive caps do not have the proper spark venting.

NAPA has it in stock , same as the stock vortec chevy ignition and crosses over to their marine line ... half the cost of merc !!! LOL

I would not give a "Hail Mary" to any automotive cap used in a marine app nor does the Coast Guard or any insurance company. It come down to pound wise penny foolish! Save a dime loose your AZZ!

Made by Mallory ... from their marine line .... the cross reference was only from their automotive line ... I am getting the marine one but i will check it against the other one ... thanks for the heads up !!!

I've had good success buying Merc stuff from NAPA....caps, coils, U-joints, etc.
These are exact replacements.

I think the Mallory blue cap is marine, and the red or black cap is automotive....

If my memory is correct I ran the Mallory blue caps on my 454 Horizons with zero issues.

As usual Jim , you are right ! LOL ... just so you know , the marine cap and auto cap are the same ... The venting is done on the distributor , not the cap . standard vortec chevy cap .. i opted for and got the marine version but it is exactly the same ...except the merc cap is cheaply made versus this one .. this has copper contacts , more corrosion proof .. cap and rotor ... 44.99 ... thru merc .... 159.00 and not as well made ... this is for a 2003 350 mag mpi with the ecm 555 ... not sure of other applications . just wanted to share this with other owners ...

my Mallory has a mesh vent in the side of the case, the cap is NOT vented, they are OEM parts......
