I have a 1973 Donzi x-18 with a hull I.D. # of DMR1859273X and I was curious if anyone new how to read this. I know that the DMR is Donzi Marine and I would think that the 18 would be the length and the 73 the year, but I am unclear about the middle numbers. I thought that maybe the 2 meant that it was actually made in 1972 for the 1973 year. I would appreciate any information that you may have.

As yours is Yellow and Tangerine interior, it makes me think of Mr X's boat he picked up in FLA a few years ago, and I believe sold to a Collector in Oregon. It was the photo shoot boat for the X-18 brochure. I would REALLY like to see pics of this.
:D

Here are a couple of his...

The 2 means that it was built in February.

The 2 means that it was built in February.

Yep, but the part that I find interesting Cliff, is that if that is the case, then that is the 59th hull (in "X" model) built in exactly one year from original product introduction. That is a fairly aggressive production model as it translates into one X-18 every 4 1/2 work days. (weekends excluded)   from commencing the product in Feb of '72 till Feb of '73 in this case. Let alone the 18 2+3's and the rest of the DONZI line-up in the early 70's.

???

Here is an interesting note. I have included eight X-18 hull numbers (Real) around the time frame. It would appear that this is how fast they were being turned out. BUT, they added a second digit to the Hull # sometime in the latter half of the '73 product year, as well as the month.
EG:
DMR18451172X November, 1972, hull #45

DMR1853173X January, hull #53

DMR1856273X February, hull #56

DMR1859273X February, hull #59

DMR1882473X April, hull #82 ????????

DMR1874673X June, hull #74

Something changed HERE

DMR180820873X August, hull # 082 (82)

DMR180810873-X August, hull #081 (81)

It's funny how long those numbers are. My Nova being built in 1972 (I really think it was July of 73 but it titled that way) has a hull # of F1941 http://www.supernova19.com/forumcw/Smileys/classic/clueless.gif
