Just the hull....

Hope it turns out as good as it looks. I got real nervous and hit BIN 'cuz I knew I was not the only one out there nutty enough to do so.

It will certainly have a Pulse Drive surface drive and probably a mahogany deck.

Does anybody know the history of this? If it is stolen or something tell me now before I go down and pick it up....

I have no Idea about it but I looked at it this morning on ebay and it seemed like a good deal. Maybe not, but thats alot of boat. A good 97 22' would bring 25k + and I would think that you could have a pratically new 97 model 22' for 20k when you got done....... how did someone end up with it???????

...in my case I do not want a 22 Classic, I just want the basic hull to make my own custom gentleman's racer out of. A 22 is big enough to have a 4 seat racer and still have a nice long mahogany deck....

What's the story behind it? seems really odd it's never rigged. Is it the Blackhawk hull or regular?

very odd but very cool. i hope this turns out to be as good of a deal as it appears, and CAN'T WAIT to see pics when you start putting the mahogany deck on...

Maybe someone restored it then quit?
If the integrity of the hull is as good looking as the exterior then you got a heck-of-a-deal.

I would like to see a picture inside the engine bay to see if the transom really has never been touched. Looks cool. Looks like a real Donzi 22. The spell checker on Donzi.net does not recognize the word Donzi. It will make a great Hacker style racer. Are you going to put a straight inboard in it? I wonder how that would work. Better with a stern drive I'm sure, but not as cool for a racer. 27 Hacker. Good luck, great project, keep us informed.

Surface Drive, www.pulsedrive.net.
Remember, I am NOT a traditionalist let alone a purist.

Here's a couple pics a guy did of a 23' Lancer.....

Also a pic inside the transom. What am I looking at? It appears to be some kind of liner?

Finally a pic of a Gar Wood speedster I built last year...mahogany over a fiberglass hull, all parts CNC cut.

Ted thinks.....(crickets) all quiet now like those EF Hutton ads....that this MIGHT be a 22 Classic OUTBOARD hull....

Stay tuned for more info Monday.....

In other words the liner is because it was going to be an outboard hull. The outboard hulls utilized an external bracket...not a well and under the hatch was a storage area....with a liner.

Mount that surface drive absolutely as low as possible. 22s like trim and bow lift. Tell me more about that Gar Wood. Very impressive. Is the red below the waterline stripe glass with no wood, and all above wood over glass? All wood over glass to the chine? Do you build any to sell? I'm a Donzi as well as a Hacker/Lyman/GarWood/CCraft lover. My last trip to the Hacker factory.

<Nice virgin transom ready for anything...........>

...ummm...never thought about it that way, but yes...I guess...the last time I saw a virgin transom like that must have been back in the '70's and yes she was ready for anything!

Speedster is wood waterline up. Glass keel to sheer, wood over that. Built a couple, sold the molds and patterns to Ramsey Restorations in Toledo, OH they are now making them.

Thread from when I finished it below.

Looks like a great deal, but the innards of the engine compartment don't look like any I have seen. May be it was going to be an OB, or maybe it is a knock off. Who would care at that price, would not have minded finding.

Is there a hull ID number stamped in the transom?

Don't know how it would turn out but twin OB's would be very unique. :hyper: Steve

Twin 300 Yamahas would make her go but big, big $$. $50+k in engines.

I wonder how the original owner got this bare hull? Why would Donzi sell someone a bare hull and deck for relatively little money (I assume given the sale price of this) so the new owner could finish it fairly cheaply and sell it as a new complete 22 for good money?

I'd be thrilled with an SSM bracket and a single 300XS and a Fleetmaster...
