I am going to be very disappointed, if we don't see this thing at AOTH.

I have the schematics from Ilmor. The beast pretty much fits, but I am more curious about what you did to overcome the oil pan depth. Dry sump?

And then there is the bottom. Shake the floor? How about the stringers?

Living the dream vicariously through the infamous Mr. X...

Very nice looking! Those things sound SWEET all strung out!!

Trip,
I suspect a higher X(than stock) which would allow for the deeper pan?

Hoping to see it at AOTH!! We need a couple strong Donzi's to show up!!

Have you had that thing on the dyno? What did the hp and torque look like?

SilverBack
02-08-2008, 10:22 PM
Ted,
I see on the Ilmor website that the 7-10 makes 700 hp at 6300 rpm's. I would think that this V-10 would make a ton of torque. What kind of a drive are you running behind this thing? Just out of curiosity. How much distance is there going to be between the prop shaft and the keel? Is that asking for too much?

It makes 650 ft lb @ 4,800 RPM but the single biggest advantage over the huge CI motors and blower motors is the weight, 800 lbs dry with headers. That's a much as 300 lbs lighter than a comparable Merc offering in the HP range.

Have you come up with anything on your drive or plans on your X? How high are you going to raise it? Do you have the engine in the boat yet?

Cumberland is NOT looking good, due to Time constraints at Donzi. :(

Do we have a choice of a sportmaster or a shortie to try?

I would think the longer fin on the sportmaster might help this thing at the higher number.

Shortie is a known commodity though...

Let me know if I can offer more keyboard-based tuning advice.

Sure wish we were going to see it at AOTH 8.

Mr X
04-22-2008, 01:50 PM
Thanks for the offer of help.
I have 3 lowers to get it dialed in.
A -1 and -2 shorty and a sportmaster, which we tried on another 22 Shelby and it was S L O W
So Todd, what are you doing to YOUR 22?

BUIZILLA
04-22-2008, 03:09 PM

Did you consider the IMCO package in lieu of the Merc. ITS? I've seen it on a RIB rigged with the Ilmor 625 and it's a nice package.

Then again, I imagine you have a "source" for the Merc stuff ;)

Pulling the man card, thong swim wear, flower beds and tulips,
and spare parts for Ted. You guys are ruthless.

Just remember, the RTSE may be taking a bit of a break, but he isn't retiring, so please be prepared to reap what you sow.

In the mean time, I'm waxing my power kayak for the big rally!

Ted.. What happend to cause the minor chips in the bow pic:doh:?

Mr X
04-27-2008, 11:17 AM
Dwight,
that happens during the decking process, and sometimes when the deck is removed from the mold. minor chips on the edges. Nothing to worry about, the rub rail covers them.

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between the weight of the Illmor and a 502 MPI or 525 EFI? ...not that it will matter.... Just curious...

The ILMOR is 400 lbs lighter than the Merc. Big Block.
