I know this probably has been asked one million times before here, but please indulge me. I purchased a 16 classic last summer after years of outboard performance boating. So, I'm pretty new to this. The boat has the 4.3 lx engine with what I believe to be a Carter-style 4 barrel. I'd like to add an after-market, low-restriction flame arrestor. Which one fits best under the hatch and will give me the best "bang" for the buck? Thanks in advance.

P.S. I live in Upstate, New York. Are there any clubs in this area that may host events in the Spring and Summer.

I'd get a Gaffrig. I have K&N's on my Formula, and I fricking hate them. Very difficult to get both valve cover breather tubes on at the same time, without pushing the filter element out of postition.

I use a K&N 10" in mine but I also use the PCV system. No yucky oil marks on my filters. It goes straight into the intake (base of carb) where it belongs.

Is there any power to be picked up with a high flow flame arrestor? Seems like the stock unit isn't all that bad. Any comments would be appreciated.

Almost everyone you speak to will say no gain but nice bling factor, if you keep your eyes open on Ebay the Merc high performance ones turn up fairly regular. They measure about 3X8" all brass construction so they polish up very nicely.
