I have a yellow 1966 18' 2+3 Triple Hatch barrel back with a 351 Windsor. I've since learned that it is probably a non original engine as the 351's weren't produced until 1969. I'm seeing more and more of these engines with the 1966 models. Could anyone tell me why? Was this a replacement by Donzi due to issues with the Holman Moody 289? Any information would be appreciated.

More ponies in the same space when it is time for a new engine? I thought the HMs were 302s?

I had a 68 ski sporter with a HM Hi-Performance 289,solid lifters,was the original motor.

the issues were with the eaton drives on the early boats, when they went or when the volvos became available( a much stronger drive)and the volvos were put in why not go bigger as Frank said more ponies is more ponies,
that's what happened to my boat

welcome post pics, a triple hatch barrelback is a sight for sore eyes during the winter

------Original small-block displacement was actually 221 cubes if memory is working this morning. Then quickly jumped to 260,and almost just as quickly to 289.Im pretty sure 302s showed up in 1969,and 351 app. the same time.I think Holman-Moody used only from 289 up........Bill S

Bill is correct. HM did not mess around with the 260's but the 260 was offered simutaneously with the 289. The 260 was offered by Interceptor in a 2bbl. carb version and the 289 by HM and then later the 302.

i have a 1973 correct craft brochure that offered hm 351's in the ski nautique. offered, yes, made who knows, i have never seen one.

i purchase a 69 cc that was originally fitted with a 235 hp hm 302, but one of the previous owner probably stuck it in his ltd wagon. she has a 351 now.

hm still sells intakes, valve covers and other trinkets and will restore a gt-40 if you can supply them with cubic dollars.
