seems odd this boat would have and alpha instead of a bravo with a 454.

If the powertrain is all original , the Bravo was'nt introduced untill ... hmm .. '89 was it ?

Otherwise quite a nice looking 22 !

in that time frame the 454 was mated to an alpha very common on the LE 22 also sbc were also put in 22's then as well so it could be a repowered sbc boat with the old drive+

Like MC says it was common back then. Just hope the new owner doesn't have a habit of slamming the throttles forward often or they will find out if the motor has a rev limiter on it when the outdrive lets go.

On the stock 330 the alpha holds up fine if you take care of it. My brother had 1000 hours on his when he upped the power and switched to a Bravo. His alpha was fine when he got rid of it, never rebuilt.

I think the only year of that combo for the 22 classic was 1987. Bravo came out in 1988, and I think 1986 and earlier had TRS.

There is another blue 87 22 with an Alpha on LG with a built 454 putting out about 450hp. It has always done fine. Lower pitch prop, higher rev, no jackrabbit starts and it has held up for 20 years. Nice cleaver on that boat.

everyone has always said the alpha can handle much more than the 300 hp mercruiser claims is the max. guess it was like you all said, one year short of the introduction of the bravo. good looking boat for an 80's 22.
