Recently purchased a 1987 Donzi 18 2+3. Currently the boat has an after market prop Elite 21. The boat orginally came with a 23 pitch cleaver. That prop is now obsolete. Looking for top speed and would appreciate some help in selecting the right prop for this boat. The out drive is a Mercury Alpha I and the boat is powered with a 350 Chevy rated at 260 HP.

Your best bet is to try to borrow a few props to do some testing buying before you get it right gets expensive, a cleaver is not a great choice it produces to much stern lift. You are better off with a round ear that produces bow lift, I am sure some 18 owners will pop in with some ireas.

I've got the same boat and setup. Mine came with the same prop yours did, 23 cleaver. After trying different props, I settled on the Turbo Vector 21. Everything Phil said is dead on accurate. Do a search, you'll find much information on this topic, and by all means, try numerous props before deciding. There are many people on this site that can help you find what you are looking for. Big Grizzly helped me get the ride and top end I wanted.

I've prolly had 9 or 10 props on my '87 18, the 23 Clever is hands down the fastest, provided you have the ORIGINAL design... it is lousy for midrange speed though, at the same rpm others would shine at, like the TXP or T1
