I've got an '01 Yukon XL. Except for the sheet metal up front, they're identical. Check PM for contact info...

Dad has a 97' 3/4 454 and loves it. Rides really good and has plenty of power, it's his 3rd burbon and he won't change to anything else he swears by them. Steve

Dad buys a new one about every 10 years, he looked at the new ones and decided to keep his old one this time, the new 3/4 sud. aren't like the older ones, all they offer is the 6.0 among other things, just not like all the 3/4 tons he's had in the past even the dealer said keep the older one anything older than 05, 05 was when many of the changes started. he's at around 250,000 and it still rides very good and has plenty of power. About time I thanked all of you that PMed me, I got all my questions answered and then some. Now what I got was an 02 5.3 4X2 with traction control, not posi so I am not sure if it will do as well at the ramp. It is an LE loaded to the hilt, it has some nice stuff runs and drives great. My next move will be figuring out how to drop the back end down the front is easy it has torsion bars, but the back is coils they are a pain. I would like it lower like my 97 Sub, side by side the new one is about 3" in front and 4" in the back higher then my other one. When I got back up from Fla with the new one I jumped into my old one, no joke the old one feels so ground huggy by comparison. I know from reading up that the 02 was greatly improved to lessen roll over, but I bet my bottom dollar the 97 GMC will run circles around it and not just because of the bigger engine. I am hoping to locate shorter coils for the rear!

Phil,

I have over 270,000 miles on my Burban... I have never had handling issues or felt the need to lower it? Hell its practically a low rider from the factory?

I run the Goodyear Forterra SUV' Tires...I have never had to put mine into 4 wheel drive at any ramp...excluding Lake Cumberland @ Jamestown...which I did as a precaution not outta necessity.

I plan on keeping it...I even have priced out a new motor when the time comes.... its been a solid Truck, tows very well unless you are racing Powerstrokes or DuraMaxes... then you're gonna feel pretty meek...but other than that...it is a terrific vehicle.

I would buy another without hesitation.

Good Luck

Doc

Dan you are more then likely right, it will just take some getting use to. Curios which engine you have, I got a smoking deal on the sub and it seems to have decent power. It has the tow package, all I need is a round to flat wire adapter. I have not spotted the engine oil cooler on this one, my GMC has good sized one. The tranny cooler on this one is bigger though, will find out how it does in the mountains next year.

Phil, the tranny cooler is in the radiator tank, on the opposite side tank is the oil cooler, look for the lines for each

Thanks Jim! My old GMC has a pretty good sized maybe 10" long engine oil cooler in the bottom radiator hose it is mounted on the drivers side of the engine. I figured since this has the factory tow package it would be similar. So they run both to the radiator now, I was under there yesterday as I was not sure when it last had a grease job. I does now with high impact silicone grease.

Phil, my father in law wasn't impressed with the durability of his '07.

One of these days, I'm going to buy a 1982 Suburban, with a 454, then paint it to match the 22. :)

But Ken, you cant blame the vehicle entirely.. I think you are supposed to open the rear hatch & load wood & plants in that way.. lol.. ;) jamie
